PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 7.
Offensive Player of the Week
Cal Jennings * Jr. * F * UCF
Jennings earned his third Offensive Player of the Week honor following a nine-point week, including four goals and an assist. The junior registered his third and fourth multi-goal games of the season last week, beginning with two goals and an assist in UCF’s 8-1 dismantling of Jacksonville on Oct. 2. On Saturday, Jennings led the Knights to their second American win, scoring twice in a 4-3 win at Tulsa. On the season, he owns 14 goals, good for second nationally.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jacob Hauser-Ramsey * Sr. * D * UConn
Hauser-Ramsey repeated as the Defensive Player of the Week as UConn remained unbeaten in conference play on Saturday. The Huskies earned a 3-0 home win over Cincinnati, holding the Bearcats to just five total shots with just one on goal. UConn is one of three American teams to own a conference-best four shutouts on the season.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Harrison Devenish-Meares * Jr. * USF
Devenish-Meares made a career-high with 10 saves on Saturday, including several point-blank stops as USF battled to a 1-1 draw with SMU. The junior registered turned aside three shots in the two overtime periods, as his performance marked just the second 10-plus save outing for American Athletic Conference goalkeepers so far this season. Devenish-Meares leads the conference with 48 total saves.
Rookie of the Week
Edgar Alaniz * R-Fr. * M * Memphis
Alaniz buried the tying goal against Temple on Saturday, collecting a rebound off the post in the 60
th minute. The 1-1 score held through both overtime periods to give Memphis a point in conference play. Alaniz now owns two goals on the season.
