UCF & Memphis Grab Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the second week of the college basketball season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aubrey Dawkins – UCF – RS-Jr. – G – Durham, N.C.
Dawkins scored 21 points in the championship game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational to help down Western Kentucky, 78-62. For his efforts he was named Tournament MVP as UCF won three games in four days that also included victories over Cal State Fullerton, 68-52, and Saint Joseph’s, 77-57. Dawkins averaged 15.7 points and 2.7 3-pointers per game.

 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tyler Harris – Memphis – G – Memphis, Tenn.
Harris averaged 21.0 points per game and shot over 40-percent from 3-point range in two games last week. The rookie scored 20 points on the road at No. 22 LSU with six triples. His six treys are second-most by any freshman in program history. Harris followed the performance with a career-high 22 points in a double-OT win vs. Yale, 109-102. He knocked down three free throws with two seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime as the Tigers scored the sixth-most points in American hoops history.
 
 
HONOR ROLL
Jalen Adams – UConn – Sr. – G
Averaged 18 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games at the 2k Empire Classic at Madison Square that included a win over No. 15 Syracuse, 83-76.
 
Shizz Alston, Jr. – Temple – Sr. – G 
Averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 assists last week in a 2-0 week; became the 53rd member of Temple’s 1,000-point club in a win over Georgia, 81-77.
 
Eric Cobb – UConn – So. – F
Finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Syracuse; posted 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals against Iowa to earn a spot on the 2k Empire Classic all-tournament team.
 
David Collins – USF – Sr. – G
Averaged 15.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game in a 2-1 week at the Jamaica Classic; named to the all-tournament team.
 
Markis McDuffie – Wichita State – Sr. – F
Selected to the Charleston Classic All-Tournament Team; averaged 22.7 points per game in three contests, the highest scoring average in the league last week.
