No. 1 USF Downs No. 4 ECU in The American Semifinals, 2-0

BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla.
- The No. 1 seeded USF Bulls improved to 10-0-0 at home on Friday night with a 2-0 victory over No. 4 ECU at Corbett Stadium in the semifinals of the 2018 American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship. USF advances to its fourth conference title game in six years, two more than any other American program.

USF showed why it has the top-ranked offense in the country with goals in each half against a tough ECU defense that featured nine saves by redshirt sophomore Melanie Stiles.

The Bulls outshot the Pirates 21-10 and limited ECU to just two shots on goal.

USF struck first just seven minutes into the match as junior Bri Blethen headed one in front of the net where her classmate Aubrey Megrath was positioned to play it in past Stiles for the 1-0 advantage.

ECU did well to limit the damage on 13 first-half shots and pushed to find its chances in the second.

Though Pirates continued to press, it was The American's Offensive Player of the Year that put the game out of reach. Junior Evelyne Viens, the country's leading scorer, netted her 19th goal of the season for a national-best 43 points in the 68th minute. She collected a loose ball, sprinted past multiple defenders and blasted home the insurance score.

No. 1 USF now hosts No. 2 Memphis in the championship match on Sunday, November 4, at 2 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Something will have to give as the Bulls are 10-0-0 at home while the Tigers are 10-0-0 on the road this year.
