Highlights

Cincinnati 71, Lipscomb 55
University of Cincinnati women's basketball defeated the visiting Lipscomb Lady Bisons, 71-55, on Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.

With their third-consecutive win, the Bearcats improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Lady Bisons dropped their third straight to fall to 2-4 on the year.

After trailing by as many as six late in the first quarter, UC used a near-six-minute 20-0 run in the second quarter to take control of the game. Entering the third period with a 41-23 advantage, the Bearcats were edged 19-15 in the quarter, but put the Lady Bisons away in the fourth with a 12-4 run late in regulation to seal the victory.

With three double-figure scorers, junior forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) led the way for the Bearcats with 14 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) chipped in 13 points, to go along with four steals, while junior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) added 10 points, five assists, and a pair of steals. In addition, senior forward Chelsea Warren (Red Oak, Texas/Red Oak) scored a season-high eight points, while junior guard Sam Rodgers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) dished out a game-best and career-high six assists.

ECU 70, Wake Forest 61
A swarming defensive effort helped the ECU women's basketball team overcome an early deficit and top Wake Forest 70-61 on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.

The victory was the first over an ACC opponent since ECU beat NC State on Dec. 9, 2007. Lashonda Monk and Raven Johnson both set new career-highs in points, finishing with 25 and 24 respectively. They are the first set of Pirate teammates to both score 20 points since Bre McDonald and Kristen Gaffney did on Feb. 22, 2017 against Cincinnati.

After starting the first four games of the season by taking early leads, ECU found itself on the other side of a fast start, as Wake Forest raced out to a 17-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The Pirates made only one field goal in the span while turning the ball over four times. ECU righted the ship after a timeout, when Salita Greene made a pair of jumpers and then Raven Johnson made a layup to cut the margin to 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.

After forcing 15 turnovers in the first half, the Pirates nearly doubled that total in a frenetic third period. ECU scored nine of the first 11 points in the period to take a 40-34 lead, with all nine coming off Wake Forest turnovers. After Wake closed the gap to 42-40, another stretch of ECU steals led to the largest Pirate lead of the game.

With ECU clinging to a lead through the fourth quarter, Monk stepped up again and again to make sure the Pirates closed out the win. The first time came after Wake Forest had scored the first six points of the quarter and shrank the lead to 55-51. Monk found space on the wing and hit a shot from behind the arc to force a Wake Forest timeout. The Demon Deacons got even closer with under three minutes remaining, as the score was just 58-55, but Monk hit another long ball to pad the lead. She followed it with a steal and a layup before Justice Gee found Frazier in transition to extend the lead to 10 once again. Wake Forest never got closer than seven the rest of the way, with Monk and Johnson making five of six free throws down the stretch.

UCF 70, Richmond 48
A defensive second half performance led the UCF women’s basketball team to a 70-48 victory over Richmond in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic at Jasper Contractors Court at CFE Arena on Saturday.

UCF (4-1) poured in 43 points in the second half to top Richmond (1-5). The Knights turned 27 Richmond turnovers into 25 points, including 17 fast break points.

Kay Kay Wright led the Knights with 14 points and dished out five assists. Kayla Thigpen added 11 points and Masseny Kaba chipped in 10 points. Wright and Nyala Shuler led the Black and Gold with five rebounds each and Shuler had a game-high two blocks.

Heading into halftime, UCF had four steals as a team. The Knights swiped nine steals in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter. UCF finished with a season-best 13 steals. Kayla Thigpen led the way with a career-best seven steals.

New Mexico 89, Houston 84
The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team dropped its final game inside H&PE Arena, falling 89-84 to New Mexico in double-overtime, on Saturday.

Houston had four players reach double figures, including a game-high 28 from Jasmyne Harris. Harris finished with an unconventional double-double with 10 steals, and just missed the triple-double with nine rebounds. Alyssa Okoene picked up her second-straight double-double and third of the season with 12 points and a career-best 19 rebounds. Serithia Hawkins finished the contest with 13 points, while Angela Harris added 12.

New Mexico raced out to a seven-point lead in the first overtime period, thanks to a pair of free throws from Robertson, a 3-pointer from Everett and a layup from Hurst. The Cougars would answer however, with an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead. Jasmyne Harris started the spark with a layup, and after Dorian Branch knocked down a pair from the line, Angela Harris and Hawkins capped the run with buckets of their own.

New Mexico would tie the game with 11 seconds remaining after Robertson made 1-of-2 from the free throw line, but the Cougars could not convert in the final 10 seconds, so the game went to the second overtime tied at 76. Saturday's game marked just the seventh game to go at least two overtimes in Houston history, but the second this season after a double-overtime win over Georgia Tech on Nov. 9.

The two teams traded buckets to start the second overtime, before Hurst gave New Mexico an 81-78 lead on a 3-pointer with 2:34 to play. Houston would retie the game just over a minute later however, after a pair of free throws from Okoene and a Jasmyne Harris layup brought the score to 82-82 with 1:13 to play. After two more buckets were traded, New Mexico grabbed the lead for good on a 3-pointer from Robertson with just 42 second remaining.

USF 60, UCLA 56
No. 17 USF women's basketball bounced back and defeated UCLA, an Elite Eight team in the NCAA tournament last season, 60-56 in the final game of the 2018 Paradise Jam Island Division on Saturday night.

Freshman Sydni Harvey led the Bulls in the Paradise Jam, setting or tying her career high in scoring in each of the three games, and earning a game-high 19 points against the Bruins (3-4) and being named the Island Division Tournament All-Star Team.

In an intense defensive first quarter, both teams were held to jusr six points in the first ten minutes until a buzzer-beating three sunk in for UCLA and the Bulls were down 9-6 to start the second quarter.

USF rolled in the second quarter, outscoring UCLA 25-9, as the Bulls made nine-of-10 free throws in the quarter. The Bulls took a 31-18 lead into the locker room, but UCLA cut the deficit to as little as six by the third quarter media timeout. USF stayed safe with a 47-38 advantage heading into the final period, where UCLA outscored USF 18-13 to get within three on three occasions, including the final 13 seconds. But Laura Ferreira hit a free throw to stretch the lead to four and seal the victory for USF.

After Harvey's game-high 19, Laura Ferreira scored 14 points and had five rebounds on the night. Elisa Pinzan had seven points and five assists, while Alyssa Rader had six points from two crucial three-pointers on the night.

Stephen F. Austin 76, Tulsa 34
The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 76-34 decision to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas.  TU fell to 3-3 on the season, while SFA moved to 4-1 overall.

Shooting troubles plagued the Golden Hurricane all day as Tulsa shot 15-percent from the field in the first quarter, 26-percent in the second, 16-percent in the third and 27-percent in the fourth for just 21-percent overall, while SFA shot 43-percent on the day.

Morgan Brady led TU with five points, while Desiree Lewis and Alexis Gaulden both had four points, and Crystal Polk, KK Rodriguez, Addison Richards and Maddie Bittle all had three.  Polk and Gaulden had a team-best four rebounds each.

The Golden Hurricane had a 10-9 edge in steals, while the Ladyjacks had a 43-25 lead in rebounds, a 21-8 advantage in assists and a 3-2 edge in blocks.

Tulsa had a slow start, hitting just one of their first five shots, while SFA was 5-of-8 to take an early 11-2 lead with 5:36 on the clock in the first quarter.  The Ladyjacks had a 16-4 advantage at the end of the frame.

SFA had just a 20-14 scoring advantage in the second 10-minute period, but took a 36-18 lead into the break.  Eight TU players scored in the first half, but none had more than three points after 20 minutes.

The Ladyjacks edged further ahead in the third quarter, outscoring the Hurricane, 18-7, for a 54-25 lead with one quarter to play, and had a 22-9 scoring lead in the fourth.

SMU 55, Northern Arizona 48
The Mustangs did not allow a fourth-quarter point as they completed a comeback victory, 55-48, against Northern Arizona in the final of the LMU Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.

Trailing by 13 heading into the game's final period, the Mustangs (4-3) put together a defensive display forcing the Lumberjacks to miss their final 14 attempts, giving the offense room to make a comeback. By the end of the game, the Mustangs had scored 22 unanswered points. Alicia Froling added nine of her 19 points in the fourth and was named tournament Most Valuable Player for her effort. Froling recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the victory with 12 rebounds while also adding four blocks.

Amber Bacon was named to the All-Tournament team along with Froling. The freshman scored 20 points across the two games while also recording six steals and nine assists. Bacon led the Mustangs with five assists in Saturday's game.

In the decisive fourth quarter, the Mustangs didn't turn it over once and forced six Northern Arizona turnovers. They out-rebounded NAU 47-39, collected 18 offensive boards and forced 23 turnovers.

Tulane 81, Cleveland State 72
The Green Wave struggled in the first half on Saturday afternoon.

In the second, well, they did not.

Trailing Cleveland State by as many as 15 points early in the third quarter, the Green Wave would eventually outscore the Vikings 50-30 in the second half to pick up an 81-72 victory at Jenny Craig Pavilion in the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Tournament.

Tulane (4-1) saw Cleveland State (3-3) get out to a huge lead as the Vikings shot 69 percent from the field in the first half. But that number plummeted back to Earth in the second half when Cleveland State made just 26 percent of its field goals.

The Vikings' poor second-half shooting combined with a resurgent Green Wave offense helped Tulane overcome that 15-point deficit very quickly, as the team tied the game toward the end of the third quarter.

Tulane got terrific contributions from everyone on the court, but Krystal Freeman led the way with a career-high 22 points. Sierra Cheatham was also in double figures with 15 points, and Erin Gutierrez had a career-best 14 points including a 7-of-8 performance from the free-throw line in the closing minutes.

Freeman also posted Tulane's first double-double of the season, adding a career-high 11 rebounds to her 22 points. Harlyn Wyatt scored 8 points and had a big hand in the third-quarter turnaround with 5 points in that quarter and finished with six rebounds as well.

Wichita State 70, Louisiana Tech 56
The Wichita State women's basketball team held a high-scoring Louisiana Tech team to just 56 points, cruising to a 14-point (70-56) win at Charles Koch Arena on Saturday night.

Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage obtained her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds - also dishing out five assists - while Raven Prince came up with 14 points and six rebounds. Dawnyel Lair scored a career-high 12 points and Carla Bremaud added 11 points with a trio of 3-pointers.

The Shockers held Louisiana Tech to 37 percent shooting and nine turnovers in the first half, giving them a 41-28 halftime lead.

Making the adjustment on defense, LA Tech took advantage by cutting the deficit to seven. Two baskets from Prince put the Shockers back ahead by double digits, but a 6-0 run allowed the Lady Techsters to trim the lead to four.

Holding Wichita State to 10 third quarter points and 38 percent shooting, Louisiana Tech trimmed the Shocker lead to 51-46 heading into the final 10 minutes.

A quick layup on the fourth quarter's first possession allowed the Lady Techsters to cut the deficit to one possession, but baskets from Lozada-Cabbage and Peacock stretched the lead back out to seven with less than eight minutes to play.

Following a driving layup from Lozada-Cabbage, another three from Bremaud allowed the Shockers to take a 10-point lead with just over three minutes left. Lair kept the Shocker pace going with a layup and Lozada-Cabbage's offensive rebound for a putback gave the Shockers a 68-56 lead with under 1:30 to play.

UConn 86, Purdue 40
Senior Napheesa Collier was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player as the No. 2 UConn women's basketball team (5-0) breezed past Purdue (5-2), 86-40, to win the 2018 Paradise Jam Reef Division.

The Huskies outscored the Boilers 23-12 in the third and 16-10 in the fourth. Williams went 4-for-4 from three-point range in the second half.
