ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF junior Cal Jennings was named a semifinalist for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy announced Monday by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
Jennings is the only player in program history to be named a semifinalist.
Jennings, one of 15 semifinalists, proved to be one of the top forwards in the nation this season. In 19 matches, Jennings netted 20 goals and four assists for 45 points. He also boasts three hat tricks on the season (against Liberty, Stetson, and FGCU).
The American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year etched his name into the record books in both the conference and UCF men’s soccer. Jennings broke The American record for most goals and most points registered in a single season.
In UCF program history, Jennings is now fourth in most goals scored in a single season (20) and fourth in most points (45), while shattering the shots record with 100 shots this season. In his UCF career, Jennings is now sixth all-time in goals scored with 29 and tied for 8th in UCF program history in points with 71.
The Roswell, Ga., native was in the national spotlight the entire season. He led all of Division I in shots per game with 5.56 and was second for the majority of the season in total goals, assists, and points.
Jennings led The American in almost every offensive category and took home First-Team honors and three Offensive Player of the Week awards. Jennings was named National Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches during the regular season and made Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week twice.
Three men's finalists and three women's finalists will be named on December 7 in conjunction with the Men's College Cup semifinals in Santa Barbara, Calif. The 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 4, 2019 to formally announce this year's winners.
