UConn's Samuelson, USF's Jordao Named Women's Basketball Weekly Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 9.
 
Player of the Week
Katie Lou Samuelson * Sr. * G * UConn

Samuelson nearly averaged a triple-double in UConn’s 2-0 week with 23 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. At Saint Louis on Dec. 4, the senior scored 20 points on 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) shooting, including five 3-pointers, while snagging six rebounds. She followed with a 26-point, 16-rebound double-double against Seton Hall on Dec. 8. The performance marked a career-high rebounding outing for Samuelson and the second double-double of her career.
 
Freshman of the Week
Beatriz Jordao * Fr. * F * USF
In USF’s lone game on the week, Jordao was efficient in just 17 minutes of play. The forward scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and was responsible for eight of the Bulls’ first nine points. She totaled four rebounds and was integral with four blocks defensively as the Bulls held George Washington to single-digits in all four quarters on Sunday. USF prevailed 63-30 for its third-straight win.

Recorded 24 points with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal as UCF won its fourth straight on Sunday with a 71-60 road victory at Delaware
 
IImar’I Thomas * So. * F * Cincinnati
Led all scorers with 20 points and rebounders with nine in Cincinnati’s win over VCU on Friday; for the week, averaged 16.0 points on 72.2 percent shooting and 6.5 rebounds per game
 
Taylor Barnes * Jr. * G * Memphis
Posted a team-high 15 points for Memphis in Sunday’s win over Samford; averaged 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on the week and tallied her 200th career assist against New Orleans
 
Mia Davis * So. * F * Temple
Put forth three-consecutive 20-plus point performances and two double-doubles in Temple’s 1-2 week, averaging 24.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while converting on 60.9 percent from the floor; went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc against No. 16/14 DePaul
 
Sierra Cheatham * So. * G * Tulane
Was an all-around contributor for the Green Wave in a 1-1 week, averaging 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks while going 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) from the field; six of her 10 field goals on the week came from beyond the arc
