Highlights

Tulane 67, Texas State 61
Texas State scored the first two points of overtime.

After that, the Green Wave took over.

Tulane women's basketball used a 9-0 run in the overtime period to pick up a 67-61 victory over Texas State in the consolation game of the Tulane Classic at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

A back-and-forth regulation period saw Tulane (8-3) overcome a late 51-45 deficit by scoring 9 of the last 12 points to force overtime at 54-54. In that extra period, the home team asserted itself.

Kaila Anderson made a free throw on Tulane's next possession, and, following a Bobcats offensive foul taken by Wyatt, Anderson hit a spectacular stepback 3-pointer to increase the Green Wave's lead to 63-56 with 1:56 remaining.

The Bobcats made a 3-pointer and a layup in the final minutes, but free throws from Anderson, Erin Gutierrez and Dynah Jones iced the win for Tulane.

The overtime game was Tulane's first since January 6 when it lost to Houston. The Green Wave won an overtime contest for the first time since Jan. 26, 2017, at Cincinnati, and the win was Tulane's first overtime win at home since Jan. 18, 2014 against Southern Miss.

Wyatt finished the game with her first double-double in a calendar year, recording 12 points and 10 rebounds. Cheatham was the team's leading scorer with 18 points including three made 3-pointers, and she had seven rebounds as well. Krystal Freeman was also in double-figure scoring with 10 and had six boards.

UConn 76, California 66
Geno Auriemma expects this UConn team to be regularly tested this season, and the top-ranked Huskies certainly had to earn their two road victories in a four-day span.

Katie Lou Samuelson had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 1 UConn held off a late rally from 14th-ranked and previously unbeaten California in a 76-66 win Saturday.

Napheesa Collier added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists in the Huskies' 126th straight regular-season victory and 58th consecutive in nonconference play. On Wednesday, Collier had 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead UConn's 12-point comeback win over Oklahoma, 72-63.

Crystal Dangerfield had 15 points, freshman Christyn Williams added 13 and Megan Walker scored 12 as UConn shot 57.4 percent.

Cal stayed within 38-32 at halftime despite being outshot 61.5 percent to 36.4 percent but also forced seven turnovers. But the Huskies quickly turned that lead into double digits, going ahead by as many as 17.

Six of the Bears' first seven field goals were 3-pointers for the early lead, along with Anigwe's snazzy cross-over late in the first.

UConn and Cal began the weekend two of only 12 remaining undefeated teams in Division I. This marked the second matchup in a four-year, home-and-home series.

Syracuse 57, UCF 52
The UCF women’s basketball team went toe-to-toe with No. 14/15 Syracuse, but was unable to complete the upset, falling 57-52 to the Orange in the St. Pete Shootout in the McArthur Center on Saturday evening.

UCF (10-2) trailed Syracuse (11-2) at the first quarter media timeout but closed the opening frame on a 9-2 run to hold a 15-9 edge after the first 10 minutes.

Masseny Kaba put the Knights up by six, 22-16, with 7:17 left in the second quarter, but the Orange chipped away at UCF’s advantage. Syracuse took a 29-27 lead into the locker rooms at the break.

UCF scored seven unanswered points to open the third quarter, starting with a three-pointer from Sydnee McDonald. Fifi Ndour used a jumper from the elbow to push the Black and Gold advantage to six, 44-38, with 1:03 left in the frame. UCF took a 44-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Orange rallied to tie the score at 46-46 with 7:31 remaining. The teams traded baskets for the next four minutes before Syracuse was able to push out to a 53-50 lead with 52 seconds remaining. A pair of free throws from Kay Kay Wright pulled the Knights back within one, 53-52, but Syracuse was able to clinch the victory at the foul line.

For the 10th time this season, UCF held its opponent under 60 points, and kept a Syracuse squad that averaged 82.6 points entering the game well below that mark. The Knights forced the Orange into 23 turnovers – one shy of their season high – and held a 39-38 rebounding advantage.

A trio of Knights finished with 11 points. Kay Kay Wright, who kept her double figure scoring streak alive for the 12th game this season, was joined by Masseny Kaba and Kayla Thigpen with 11 each. Six of Tolulope Omokore’s season-best eight rebounds came on the offensive end. Wright dished out a trio of assists and Thigpen collected three steals for the Black and Gold.

Oklahoma 77, SMU 61
SMU women's basketball dropped a 77-61 decision to Oklahoma in non-conference action inside Moody Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Alicia Froling led the Mustangs with 12 points and nine rebounds, one board shy of her eighth double-double of the season. Freshman guard Kayla White added 11 points for her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring performance.

SMU (6-6) held tight with the Sooners (4-7) in the second half, outscoring them 23-22 in the third quarter, but could not overcome Oklahoma's hot shooting night. The Sooners shot efficiently, knocking down 54.9 percent of their field goals, including seven of their 14 3-pointers.

Sophomore guard Ariana Whitfield dished a team-high six assists to go with eight points, while freshman guard Amber Bacon had a game-high three steals.

After scoring 24 points in the first half, SMU scored 23 points in the third quarter behind nine points from freshman forward Brishonne Tollie off the bench.
