Highlights
Four teams were in action over the weekend, as the American Athletic Conference opened its 2018-19 indoor track and field season. From Nov. 30-Dec. 1, Cincinnati, Memphis, Tulane and Wichita State each competed in their first meets of the season.

- Memphis' DeeNia McMiller and Jordan Wesner set school records in their respective events in the Tigers' indoor season-opening meet, the Vanderbilt Opener, Saturday. It marked the fifth-straight year Memphis has opened its indoor campaign at the annual Commodores' meet. McMiller set the school record in the women's weight throw, breaking her own mark of a year ago. On Saturday, McMiller threw 65-10.25 (20.07m), bettering her previous record of 65-3.25 (19.89m).

Wesner, an outdoor All-America in the men's high jump, set the school indoor record in the event. Wesner's jump of 7-4.5 (2.25m) broke the nearly 30-year-old mark of 7-3.25 (2.22m) set by Tyrone Betters in 1989. Davon DeMoss (60m/200m), Saida Burns-Moore (high jump/triple jump) and McMiller (shot put/weight throw) all were double-winners Saturday.

- Tulane won five events and posted 19 top-five finishes at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham Crossplex—the site of the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship. The Green Wave set five new top-10 marks in program history on their way to a commanding team victory. Tulane scored 147 points as a team to clinch first place. Rebekah Markel (pole vault), Trina Malej (triple jump), Aldrianna Dupree (60-meter dash) and Tahja Mitchell (400-meter run) each earned first-place finishes.

- Kendra Henry set a personal best pentathlon score of 3,572 to win the Shocker Multi Saturday evening at the Heskett Center. She set personal bests in the 60m hurdles (9.20), shot put (12.22m/40-1.25) and 800m (2:25.91) to win the Shocker Multi pentathlon. Teammate Claudia Rojo finished second (3,560).

After having a breakthrough performance on day one, sophomore Grant Downes carried that momentum to day to finishing second in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 4,802 points.

- Cincinnati hosted is 39th edition of the Red-Black Intrasquad with the Red Team winning the overall competition, 100-96. With 23 events contested, the Black Team won the women's competition, 53-49, while the Red Team captured the men's battle, 51-43. Overall, nine meet records fell on the day with the women collecting five of the marks. In the women’s weight throw, 2017 NCAA Champion Annette Echikunwoke launched the 20-pound ball out to 22.65m (74-02.75), surpassing her own mark for the third year in a row. On the men's side, three event records were recorded in similar events to the women, including the 55-meter dash, the high jump and the weight throw.
