UConn's Williams, SMU's White Named Women's Basketball Weekly Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 2.
 
Player of the Week
Christyn Williams * Fr. * G * UConn

Williams was UConn’s mainstay last week, averaging 21.5 points while shooting 72 percent from the field against two top-25 opponents. The freshman led No. 2 Huskies in an 89-71 victory over No. 1 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., scoring a career-high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. Williams’ total was the third-highest all-time by a UConn player in an AP top-2 matchup. The Little Rock, Ark. native additionally scored 15 points against No. 16/14 DePaul earlier in the week on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
 
Freshman of the Week
Kayla White * Fr. * G * SMU
White continued her standout rookie campaign for SMU last week, averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two games. In the Mustangs’ comeback win over North Texas, she led SMU with 17 points in 31 minutes, connecting on 5-of-11 from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line, while grabbing five boards. Against Northern Colorado later in the week, White totaled 12 points with a team-high four steals.

Averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals with a 41.7 field goal percentage in Houston’s 1-1 week; led the Cougars against 2018 NCAA Tournament team Florida Gulf Coast with 16 points

Posted another week with a double-double average, this time 13.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, and became SMU’s all-time rebounding leader with her 10th board against North Texas
 
Laura Ferreira * R-Sr. * G * USF
Nearly reached a triple-double for USF against New Hampshire, finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds, seven assists in 28 minutes
 
Krystal Freeman * So. * F * Tulane
Led Tulane with 15 points in just 21 minutes against FAU, shooting 7-of-11 from the field; completed Tulane’s 2-0 week with 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a 60.0 field goal percentage
 
Crystal Polk * Sr. * F * Tulsa
Was named to the Arizona State Classic All-Tournament Team with 14 points, 10 rebounds in a win over Alabama and 14 points, 7 boards against No. 19 Arizona State; for the week, averaged 14 points and 7.7 rebounds as Tulsa went 2-1
