Highlights

For many American Athletic Conference indoor track and field programs, this weekend was the final chance to tune up before the conference championship, which will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. from February 23-24. All 12 conference conferences competed in 11 meets across the country over the weekend.

- The Bearcat women broke a pair of records at the Music City Challenge, as Brooke Catherine snapped the pole vault mark while the team of Tiona Lattimore, Haisha Bisiolu, Deanna Gesicki and Bryana Robinson combined to reset their own 4x400m relay mark. The final record came on the men's side as Austin Edwards tied the mark in the 60m dash.

- The UConn men competed at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentin Invitational on Saturday, as five Huskies placed in the top 10 in the pole vault with Ian Bergere (4.95, 4th), Caleb Kasupski (4.80, 5th), Samuel Rusak (4.80, 6th), Marc Deluca (4.80, 7th) and Chandler Ives (4.65, 8th). The Husky women captured two first place victories and 11 Top-10 performances on Friday night at the same meet. Divine Oladipo claimed her third victory of the season in the shot put (16.64m). Amaris Blount joined her teammate at the top of the podium after tossing her weight 17.84m in the weight throw.

- ECU track and field program turned in seven event victories at the Liberty Elite Invitational Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. The Pirates set four meet records and two facility records. Additionally, senior Galissia Cause set the school record in the shot put and remains unbeaten in the event this season while junior Ryan Davis' weight throw mark is the third longest in school history.

- Houston’s Elijah Hall concluded an impressive weekend at the Tyson Invitational with his second victory of the meet, taking gold in the 200-meter dash. Running in the fourth heat, Hall crossed the line in 20.52, just one one-hundredth of a second off his school-record mark, to win the Invitational race. Hall also won the 60-meter dash in Friday’s competition with the second-fastest time in school history at 6.58. Hall helped the Cougars close the meet with a program record in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Amere Lattin, Hall, Mario Burke and Kahmari Montgomery finished the 8-lap relay in 3:04.18 to break the previous mark set by Lattin, Burke, Quivell Jordan and Montgomery earlier this year at the Mark Colligan Memorial. Houston’s time moves them to No. 4 in the NCAA this season. The Cougars also competed at their Howie Ryan Invitational.

- Memphis set two school records at the Music City Challenge. Cera Chavez and the Tigers men's 4x400 meter relay actually re-set their own school marks in second-day action at the Commodores' Music City Challenge. Chavez ran a 7.37 in the women's 60-meters final to win the event and break her own school record. She ran a 7.39 in the 60 meters to set her initial school record at the Dec. 2 Vanderbilt Opener. The Tigers’ men's 4x400 meter relay re-set the school record in the event for the third time this indoor season – and all three times took place at a Vanderbilt meet.

- USF finished the final regular season event of the indoor season on a high note Friday. The Bulls broke two school records, posted nine event victories and racked up 22 total top-five finishes at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham. David Bell set the new USF indoor record in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 17-5.00 in his first event win of the indoor season. Zach Diaczynsky also set a new USF indoor record in his second-place finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 54-2.75.

- Jessica Duckett set a new school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.36 in day two of the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., topping the previous program best of 8.44, which she recorded last year at the LSU Twilight Invitational. Across the country in Massachusetts, redshirt juniors Emma Newton and Lauren Bartels ran in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Newton recorded a time of 9:55.87 in the 3000m while Bartels set a new personal best in the 5000m, running to a 10th place finish in 17:04.43. North of New Mexico, junior Emmanuel Rotich competed at the Husky Classic in Seattle, finishing 35th in the 5000m with a time of 14:15.52.

- The Shockers competed at both the Tyson Invitational and Indoor Gorilla this weekend.  All-American Hunter Veith placed second in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.57m/24-10 and Ben Johnson set a personal best 6.94m/22-9.25 to place 15th overall.  Hayden Bugner placed fourth in the men's pole vault invite clearing 4.98m/16-4. The women's distance group followed up with personal best times of their own. Freshman Winny Koskei placed seventh with a time of 10:01.91 and senior Jordan Maestas finished 10th with a time of 10:14.05.m.

The men’s distance runners ran a total of seven athletes in the two races combined and each athlete finished with a personal best. Senior Gage Garcia won the mile unseeded race with a time of 4:16.01, followed by Ben Flowers in second (4:16.58), Austin Sturdy in 13th (4:21.36) and Ethan Kossover in 18th (4:22.88).  In the men's seeded mile, Zack Penrod won the race with a meet and facility record of 4:03.39. Reno Law placed second (4:11.33) and Nathan Wickoren finished the race with a time of 4:13.65.

- UCF’s Shaniya Williams collected her second straight top five finish in the 200-meter dash at the Music City Challenge. She crossed the line in 24.39, winning her heat and finishing third overall. Natosha Jordan tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing 5-3.25 on her first attempt. Rosie Chamberlain was the first Knight across the line in the 800-meter run. She posted a season-best 2:08.36 to finish fourth overall.

- Temple competed for the last time in the 2018 indoor season at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday for the Fastrack National Invite. Temple's distance medley relay team will bring home first place among the Owls' eleven other top 10 finishes.

- SMU picked up personal records in multiple events at this weekend's Tyson Invitational and Music City Challenge, including junior Latessa Johnson's SMU record-breaking performance in the 200m dash. Johnson raced a 23.29 in the 200m dash invitational at the Tyson Invitational, breaking the SMU record of 23.48 that she set in 2016. Chelsea Francis, the only other Mustang to attend the Fayetteville meet, finished 10th in the 200m with a personal best time of 23.77.
