PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 11.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mariah Garcia * Sr. * SS * Houston
Garcia led Houston to a 3-1 week at the Aggies Classic with a .636 batting average (7-for-11) and .714 on-base percentage. In the second win over Big 12 foe Texas Tech, she scored twice and brought in four runners to help the Cougars earn an 8-2 victory. Garcia recorded a hit and RBI in all four appearances last week.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Molly Smith * Sr. * P * Memphis
Smith went 3-1 in four appearances at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament last week. She finished with a 0.54 earned run average in 13.0 innings pitched. The senior struck out a career-high 15 batters and earned a complete game win over Ball State. The Oregon native struck out an additional three batters in the Tigers’ second matchup against NC State for a total of 18 strikeouts through the weekend to start her senior campaign.

Finished with a 1.40 earned run average in a 3-2 victory against No. 18 Michigan, turned in 10 total strikeouts last week
Sam Worrell * 3B * Jr. * USF
Recorded five RBIs last week in five appearances, had a .417 average in 12 at-bats.
Bailee Nickerson * OF * Fr. * Wichita State
Hit .300 over the week, produced two collegiate HRs, five RBIs and four runs in a 6-4 win over Tennessee Tech
