Houston's Brooks, Temple's Moorman II Earn Weekly Accolades



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Feb. 5-11.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Armoni Brooks · So. · G · Houston · Round Rock, Texas
Brooks posted the first two double-doubles of his career in Houston’s two victories this week, averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. In Houston’s win over SMU, Brooks finished with 23 points, knocking down seven three-pointers in the process and adding 10 rebounds. On Sunday, Brooks finished with 11 points and a career-high 11 boards as the Cougars improved to 9-3 in American play and 19-5 overall.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
J.P. Moorman II · Fr. · F · Temple · Greensboro, N.C.
For the first time in his career, Moorman II collects rookie of the week honors. In Temple’s win over ECU, Moorman II posted the first double-double by an Owl freshman since Lavoy Allen in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, recording 11 points and 12 rebounds. In a 2-0 week for the Owls, Moorman II averaged 8.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
A.J. Davis · R-Sr. · G/F · UCF · Atlanta, Ga.
Davis’ 20 points helped lead UCF to the program’s first-ever win at Memphis. For the week, Davis knocked down 66.7 percent of his attempts from the field, averaging 14.5 ppg.
 
Junior Etou · R-Sr. · F · Tulsa · Republic of Congo
In Tulsa’s lone game of the week, Etou posted his third consecutive double-double, recording 19 points and 11 rebounds in the Golden Hurricane’s overtime win over Tulane.
 
Quinton Rose · So. · G · Temple · Rochester, N.Y.
Rose was Temple’s leading scorer in both of the Owls’ wins last week, averaging 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. In Temple’s victory over ECU, Rose recorded 23 points before a 20-point effort at USF as the Owls won their fifth-straight game.
 
Landry Shamet · R-So. · G · Wichita State · Kansas City, Mo.
Shamet averaged 18.0 points in a 2-0 week for No. 22 Wichita State, handing out nine assists against just one turnover. The sophomore was 8 of 13 from three-point range, fueling a 20-point performance at Memphis and a 16-point effort versus UConn.
 
Kyle Washington · R-Sr. · F · Cincinnati · Champlin, Minn.
Washington helped lead No. 6 Cincinnati to two conference wins, making the Bearcats the first team in American Athletic Conference history to open conference play 12-0. Washington averaged a team-best 15.0 points, shooting 14 of 21 from the field in victories over UCF and at SMU. The lefty chipped in 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as the Bearcats extended the nation’s best winning streak to 16 games.
