DALLAS – The University of Houston leads the women’s field after day one of The American Swimming & Diving Championships with a score of 105, while SMU (96) and UConn (90) finished second and third in the women’s field, respectively. On the men’s side, Cincinnati finished day one with a score of 123 and heads into day two with a 21-point lead.
In the 1-meter finals, Bryce Klein earned his third consecutive first-place medal with a winning score of 331.70. Following Klein was Cincinnati’s Mitchell Godar (309.15) and Isaac Kern (249.15).
In the 200-yard medley relay, SMU took the women’s event. The squad comprised of Matea Samardzic, Andrea Podmanikova, Erin Trahan and Felicity Passon clinched the individual title for the fourth consecutive with a time of 1:38.56. ECU secured the men’s 200-yard medley for the first time since 2015 as Tristan Taylor, Jacek Arentewicz, Gustavo Santos and Gavin Erdmann set the pool record with a time of 1:27.78.
Cincinnati defeated the field in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay. The Bearcats’ team of Justin Crew, Johannes Kabelka, Din Selmanovic and Tobias Van Dyke swam the distance in 6:27.32, over two seconds faster than the next finisher. On the women’s side, the Houston relay team of Mykenzie Keehy, Ksenia Yuskova, Samantha Medlin and Zarena Brown took first with a time of 7:06.86, a school, pool and meet record for the Coogs.
Houston earned the individual 3-meter event for the fourth year in a row. Sophomore Lauren Burrell finished atop the podium with a winning score of 287.45, followed by Cincinnati’s Claire Schuermann (278.40).
Competition continues on Thursday, with preliminary swimming events starting at 10 a.m. CT, followed by diving preliminaries at 1 p.m. CT. Finals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
