Highlights
- Five American Athletic Conference track and field teams competed in their final regular season meets on Friday, February 16, to tune-up before the conference championship on February 23-24.
- Annette Echikunwoke continues to make her mark on history for Cincinnati, as her stellar throwing, including one of the longest throws in NCAA history, led the way for the Bearcats Friday night at the Buckeye Tune-Up inside French Fieldhouse in Columbus. Echikunwoke became just the second woman in NCAA history to record a mark of 80' or further as she won the event with a best of 24.78m (81-03.75). Not only did her mark improve her previous lifetime best by 3' 5", it also landed her higher up both the NCAA and world all-time ledgers. On the collegiate stage, Echikunwoke now ranksNo. 2 all-time after recording the furthest throw since 2008.
Brooke Catherine once again cleared a four-meter height, this time winning with a best of 4.11m (13-05.75). For the second week in a row, she took a crack at clearing 4.31m, but was unable to on all three of her attempts.
- Memphis swept the top-three places in both the men's 55 meters and women's shot put at the 2018 Redhawks Open on the Southeast Missouri campus Friday. The Tigers won nine events (men/women combined) and had 22 top-three performances.
- Bridgid Selfors won the 3000m while Paige Fatland won the 800m to close out Tulane’s indoor regular season at the LSU Twilight Invitational Friday afternoon inside the Carl Maddox Field House.
- Tulsa team sent two 4x400-meter relay teams to the Arkansas Qualifier, where the women's team placed first, late Friday. The Golden Hurricane team of Kiarra Reed, Breonna Hall, Candalyn Lyons, and Aaliyah Birmingham posted a time of 3:42.47 on their way to a first-place finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay.
- Twenty-five Shocker student-athletes competed Friday, including six that either equaled or set personal best marks. With only a select few athletes competing in the meet, many of the top athletes had the week off in preparation for the American Athletic Conference meet on Feb. 23-24 in Birmingham, Ala.
