Katie Lou Samuelson Takes ESPNW, USBWA National Player of the Week Honors

Junior Katie Lou Samuelson of the No. 1 University of Connecticut women’s basketball team earned USBWA and ESPNW National Player of the Week honors after leading the Huskies to two big wins last week.

Samuelson was also named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Samuelson averaged 26.5 points per game while shooting 68 percent from the field last week. In a 69-58 win over No. 4 Louisville, she scored 26 points while adding three assists and three rebounds. In a 106-45 rout of Temple, Samuelson scored 27 on 82 percent shooting and notched five assists and four boards.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native leads UConn’s top-ranked offense (90.2 points per game) with 18.4 points per game. Samuelson is one of four Huskies on both the Naismith Tropy and Wooden Award late season watch lists.

The Huskies (26-0, 13 AAC) are back in action at Tulane (12-14, 4-9) on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcasted on SNY.
