Highlights
 
The American's baseball teams had a 6-4 day, as UCF, UConn, Houston, USF and Wichita State each had wins in nonconference action. Teams will return to the diamond tomorrow for eight Sunday games to wrap up the weekend action.
 
- USF snapped a four-game setback with a 3-2 win over Fordham. The weekend series is now locked at 1-1, as Sunday’s 6:30 p.m. ET game will decide the winner. The Bulls go a strong performance from starter Peter Strzelecki, who struck out nine batters through five innings. Catcher Tyler Dietrich had a strong offensive presence, goint 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
 
- Wichita State (4-0) remained undefeated after knocking off Omaha 4-3 in its home opener. The Shockers tallied three runs in the fifth inning on the way to victory. First baseman Mason O’Brien had two RBIs in the win.
 
- For the first time since 2006, the UCF baseball team posted back-to-back shutouts. On Saturday night, the No. 24 Knights blanked Savannah State 6-0 to clinch the weekend series.  Starter pitcher Joe Sheridan tossed six shutout innings to help the team achieve a season-best 15 strikeouts.
 
- UConn rebounded from Firday’s loss, winning a doubleheader at Southeastern Louisiana to claim the series title. Outfielder Isaac Feldstein hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to give the Huskies a Game 1 win. Shortstop Anthony Prato went 3-for-5 with one RBI, while P.J. Poulin pitched through two shutout innings to earn the save in Game 2.
 
- Coming off a 15-inning loss, No. 22 Houston rebounded, leading 10-8 in hits and putting up nine runs in a 9-4 win at Cal State Fullerton. The series is locked at 1-1, as Game 3 is set for 4 p.m. ET tomorrow. Outfielder Drew Minter and shortstop Cooper Coldiron each had two hits in the win.
 
- ECU’s offense strung together nine hits, but dropped its first game of the year to No. 6 North Carolina, 5-4. The series will be decided tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
 
- Memphis battled back from a large deficit, but its rally came up short, as Eastern Illinois claimed Game 2 10-9 to capture the weekend series.
 
- Tulane baseball fell 5-4 in the resumed Game 1 from Friday, and then 9-1 in Game 2 of its weekend series at No. 9 Ole Miss.
 
- Cincinnati scored six runs through three innings using six hits, but couldn’t get the edge, falling to Sam Houston State, 10-6.
