PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of Feb. 19-25.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Casidy Boyle · Sr. · INF · USF
Boyle appeared in four games for USF this weekend (starting each) at shortstop. The senior led the team at the plate with a .500 average in the USF tournament over the weekend with six hits in 12 at-bats. Boyle collected two homers drove in three RBI over the weekend as the Bulls picked up a pair of wins against Fordham.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Watson · Sr. · RHP · Tulsa
Watson went 3-0 last week, not allowing a run while recording 30 strikeouts against just two walks in 20.0 innings over the weekend at the FAU "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament. She recorded a pair of shutouts and improved her record to 5-2 on the season. She opened the weekend with six scoreless innings against UIC, then struck out a season-high 13 and allowed just two hits in a win over Columbia before a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts on just 84 pitches against Florida Atlantic.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Molly Smith · Sr. · RHP · Memphis
Smith tossed her first complete no-hitter in the win over UMBC on Feb. 23, the second Memphis no-hitter she has been a part of this season. In the win, she struck out 10 for her third outing with at least 10 strikeouts as her only blemishes against UMBC were a hit by pitch and a walk. She finished the weekend with a 2-1 overall record with a wins against UMBC and North Florida and a setback to No. 15 UL Lafayette. She had a 1.14 ERA this weekend and struck out a total of 14 batters compared to just four walks.
Shelby Estocado · Sr. · INF · Tulsa
Estocado hit .471 with a homer and six RBI as Tulsa went 4-1 at the FAU "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. The senior had at least one hit in all five games and recorded a .706 slugging percentage. Estocado started the weekend with a 3-for-4 outing that included a double and a season-high four RBI to help Tulsa defeat Dartmouth. She homered against Texas State and drove in a run against Columbia.
Olivia Sappington · R-Fr. · OF · UConn
Sappington hit .353 (6-for-17) last weekend, recording her first-career home run against Florida Gulf Coast. She had two extra-base hits, two RBI and five runs scored throughout the weekend out of predominantly the leadoff spot for the Huskies.
Aubrey Johnson · So. · INF · UCF
Johnson produced for UCF last week, hitting .400 with a home run, four RBI, four runs and a stolen base while drawing three walks and reaching on a pair of hit by pitches. She recorded at least one hit in five of the six games as the Knights grabbed four wins.
Arielle James · So. · INF · Houston
James hit .500 (6-for-12) last weekend with three doubles and three runs scored while adding an RBI in Houston’s win over Syracuse. Jones’ efforts at the plate helped the Cougars to a 4-0 week.
