PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
Six teams won their series last week, including UCF, UConn, ECU, Houston, USF and Wichita State. The Pirates and the Cougars recorded series wins over top-25 teams, as the No. 23 Knights and Shockers enjoyed weekend sweeps. The programs prepare for 36 more games this week, including four nationally ranked opponents over the weekend.

ECU is off to a 6-1 start after defeating then No. 6 North Carolina 2-1 in a three-game series. The Pirates took down the Tar Heels in a close 2-1 home game on Friday and finished the weekend on Sunday with a 12-0 win. D1Baseball.com listed the Pirates at No. 18 in this week's national poll. ECU holds a conference-best .308 batting average and 72 hits this year, averaging 7.1 runs per game. The Pirates also lead the conference with a 1.86 ERA, which is ranked eighth in the nation.

Wichita State remains undefeated through two weeks with a 6-0 record after completing another weekend sweep in its home-opening series against Omaha. Third baseman Alec Bohm is batting .550 (11-for-20) with eight RBIs, which is tied for the conference lead alongside UCF first baseman Rylan Thomas.

No. 22 Houston won a series at then No. 13 Cal State Fullerton last weekend. After dropping a 15-inning heartbreaker on Friday, the Cougars defeated the Titans 9-4 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. Left hander Trey Cumbie has reached double-figure strikeouts in both his appearances this season. Houston will face three more ranked teams this weekend when it hosts No. 7 Kentucky, No. 21 Mississippi State and No. 5 Vanderbilt.

No. 24 UConn also rebounded after falling in its series opener against Southeastern Louisiana, winning a doubleheader on Saturday to claim the series title. The Huskies were led by catcher Zac Susi, who was named The American Player of the Week after batting .429 (6-for-14) with a .429 on base percentage, a .500 slugging percentage and one double. Closer P.J. Poulin recorded two saves.
