UConn's Stevens, Memphis' Davis Claim Final Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Monday, Feb. 26.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Azura Stevens    Jr.    F    UConn
Junior Azura Stevens put forth one of her best weeks for UConn yet, averaging 19.3 points and 7.7 rebounds as the Huskies wrapped up their fifth-straight American Athletic Conference regular-season title. Stevens led the Huskies with 23 points against Tulane on Feb. 21, shooting 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the field and followed on Feb. 24 with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double at SMU. She helped UConn close out the regular season with a game-high 21 points and six boards in a win over No. 20/17 USF.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Alana Davis    Fr.    F    Memphis
Alana Davis helped Memphis secure the No. 8 seed for the American Athletic Conference Championship in a 2-1 week, posting a career performance when needed. In Monday’s overtime win over Temple, Davis scored a career-high 23 points and snagged 12 rebounds. The game marked her second-straight double-double as she previously registered 12 points and 12 rebounds against Tulsa on Feb. 24. For the week, Davis averaged 14.7 points on 50 percent (14-fo-28) shooting and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Kay Kay Wright So. G UCF
Was key in UCF’s 3-0 week that secured the No. 3 seed for the Knights, averaging 13.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. She generated her first career double-double at Memphis on Feb. 21 with 11 points and 10 assists, before leading the Knights with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting (66 percent) against Houston on Feb. 24
 
Ana Owens Sr. G Cincinnati
In Cincinnati’s 2-1 week, Owens averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game with 10 of her 13 field goals coming from behind the arc. Owens dropped 24 points to go along with seven rebounds at Temple on Feb. 21 and led the Bearcats with 15 points at USF of Feb. 24. On Monday, she helped Cincinnati solidify the No. 4 seed with 11 points and five assists on Senior Night against Houston
 
Maria Jespersen Sr. F USF
Averaged a double-double on the week for USF, averaging 19 points and 11.3 rebounds as the Bulls went 2-1. Jespersen began her week with 19 points and 11 boards against Houston on Feb. 21 and poured in 26 points with 16 rebounds against Cincinnati on Feb. 26’s Senior Day. She further generated a 20-of-21 performance (95 percent) from the foul line for the week
 
Kolby Morgan Sr. G Tulane
Had a career week for Tulane, averaging 17.7 points and 4.7 steals per game to break the Green Wave’s program record for made field goals. Morgan recorded 24 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to lead her team in Monday’s comeback victory against SMU and set single-game career-highs with six steals apiece against Wichita State and SMU
 
Angiee Tompkins Sr. F Wichita State
Averaged 15.3 points and 8.3 boards in the Shockers’ 3-0 week to close the regular season. Tompkins scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed seven boards on Senior Day against Tulane, and finished her week with 14 points and eight boards at Tulsa on Monday to help lock up the No. 6 seed for Wichita State
