Etou, Williams Snare Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Etou · R-Sr. · F · Tulsa · Republic of Congo
For the second time this season, Etou earns player of the week honors. In a 2-0 week for Tulsa, Etou posted his fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season, averaging 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds as the Golden Hurricane climbed to fourth in The American. Etou opened the week with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against SMU before posting another 17-point effort at USF, adding 12 boards.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Shawn Williams · R-Fr. · G · ECU · Little Rock, Ark.
For the third time this season, Williams collect rookie of the week accolades. The redshirt-freshman erupted for a career-high 30 points in ECU’s overtime victory over Memphis, knocking down 6 of 10 three-pointers in the process, matching his career best. On the week, Williams averaged 22.5 points per game.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Shizz Alston, Jr. · Jr. · G · Temple · Philadelphia, Pa.
With 15 points and 10 assists at Tulane, Alston, Jr. became the first Owl with double-figure assists since Dec. 2014, leading Temple to its third straight win. Earlier in the week, Alston, Jr., had 12 points in Temple’s victory over No. 16 Wichita State, including the game-tying basket near the end of regulation.
 
Kyvon Davenport · Jr. · F · Memphis · Gainesville, Ga.
Davenport recorded back-to-back double-doubles in a 1-1 week for Memphis, averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds. With an 18-point, 11-rebound performance at USF, Davenport matched his career-best rebounding effort.
 
Corey Davis, Jr. · Jr. · G · Houston · Lafayette, La.
Davis, Jr., led Houston in scoring in a 1-1 week for the Cougars, averaging 16.5 ppg. At No. 8 Cincinnati, Davis, Jr. posted 18 points, including five three-pointers. With 15 points and three triples at UCF, Davis, Jr. extended his streak with at least one three-pointer to 18 games.
 
Jacob Evans III · Jr. · G · Cincinnati · Baton Rouge, La.
As No. 8 Cincinnati extended its winning streak to 14 games, Evans averaged a team-best 18.5 points, adding 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. At UConn, Evans notched a game-high 19 points, extending his streak of scoring in double figures to 10 games.

Fleming posted the third triple-double in American men’s basketball history and first in ECU history with his 11-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist performance in the Pirates’ win over Memphis. Matching his career-high with 11 assists, Fleming is the only player in The American with three or more double-digit assist games this season.
