UCF and Tulane take home weekly baseball awards


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 11.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Osik * Sr. * OF * UCF
Osik had 11 RBIs through a 5-0 week for UCF, including a two-game series sweep over No. 1 Florida. The senior outfielder went 4-for-5 with four RBIs in Game 1 of the series against the Gators on Tuesday and went 3-for-4 with six RBIs in the series finale against Siena. Overall he hit .421 (8-for-19) with a .684 slugging percentage after recording a triple and a home run.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kaleb Roper * Jr. * RHP * Tulane
Roper threw eight shutout innings, fanning a season-high eight batters in a 1-0 win over Purdue in the series opener on Friday night. Roper allowed two hits and two walks through his longest outing of the season. The Green Wave won Game 3 on Sunday to earn the series win.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
A.J. Kullman * Jr. * RHP * Cincinnati
Kullman guided Cincinnati to an 8-3 win over No. 12 Indiana on Tuesday, pitching five innings and scattering two hits and an unearned run. The right-hander recorded five strikeouts and allowed no hits until the fourth inning.
 
Alec Burleson * Fr. * DH/1B/LHP * ECU
Burleson earned a save in each of his three appearances this week, recording two in the doubleheader sweep at Charlotte and one on Wednesday against Charleston. Burleson notched his first save of the season tossing a perfect ninth with one strikeout and also scored a run and had a hit as a designated hitter in a 5-2 win over the Cougars. He then had back-to-back saves against Charlotte, coming in for the final two innings of Game 1 and the final 0.2 innings of Game 2. He also had three hits and four RBIs while playing first base in the Game 2 win.
 
Landon Etzel * So. * OF * Houston
Etzel led Houston’s offense through a 3-2 week, including a series win over San Diego over the weekend. He batted .316 (6-for-19) with four RBIs. Etzel went 3-for-5 with two RBIs on Wednesday in a 13-9 win against McNeese State.
 
Peter Strzelecki * R-Sr. * RHP * USF
Strzelecki was lights out on Saturday night, guiding the Bulls to a 6-0 win. He tossed 7.0 innings, the longest outing for a USF starter so far this year. Strzelecki allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out a career-high 12 batters.
 
Liam Eddy * Fr. * RHP * Wichita State
Eddy earned the Game 2 win over UT-Arlington, as the Shockers swept the weekend series. He tossed seven innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits with no walks. Eddy had four strikeouts and improved to 4-0 this season, lowering his ERA to 1.05.
