USF Duo Takes Weekly Baseball Honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 18.
                
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Genord * Jr. * 1B * USF
Genord helped USF extend its winning streak to eight in a row after going 9-for-18 with six runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs. He homered in four-straight games prior to Sunday and had three doubles to boost a 1.333 slugging percentage.  
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shane McClanahan * R-So. * LHP * USF
McClanahan tossed 6.0 hitless innings, allowing just three walks with a career-high 15 strikeouts, as his team collected their fourth no-hitter in program history in a 12-0 Friday night win against Army. Through five appearances, McClanahan is yet to give up an earned run, extending his scoreless innings streak to 30.2 to start the season. McClanahan has fanned 56 batters this season, averaging 11.2 strikeouts per game.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL  
J.J. Montgomery * Jr. * RHP * UCF
Montgomery threw six shutout innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters, while scattering two hits and a walk in an 8-0 win against Chicago State on Sunday to help his team complete a weekend sweep.  It marked the Knights’ fifth series sweep of the year and seventh shutout, as the pitching staff allowed one run through 27 innings over the weekend.  
 
Brady Lloyd * Jr. * 2B * ECU
Lloyd led ECU at the plate through a 4-1 week, batting .529 (9-for-17) with six runs scored, two RBIs, a double and a .588 slugging percentage. The junior second baseman enjoyed a career-best five hits with five runs scored in an 18-4 Game 2 win against Maryland to clinch the series. He recorded 14 assists and eight putouts without an error through the Pirates’ five games.
 
Ryan Ross * Jr. * LHP * ECU
Ross appeared in three games out of the bullpen, tossing 9.1 scoreless innings with two saves over the weekend. The lefty tallied 11 strikeouts and gave up three hits and no walks, as both his saves came in 4-0 shutouts against Maryland through the weekend sweep. Ross retired all 10 batters faced on Sunday to earn his second save of the week.
 
Mason Feole * So. * LHP * UConn
Feole pitched six shutout innings with a career-high eight strikeouts on Saturday, as the Huskies held onto a 1-0 win on the way to taking down No. 29 St. John’s in a road series. Feole logged his fourth combined shutout of his career.  
 
Trey Cumbie * Jr. * LHP * Houston
Cumbie is the first American Athletic Conference pitcher to go the distance this season, as the southpaw tallied his fifth career complete game on Friday night in a 1-0 shutout against New Mexico. Cumbie fanned 10 batters, recording 10 or more strikeouts for the third time this year. He faced only two hitters over the minimum (29).
