PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of March 12-18.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tori Stafford · Jr. · INF · Tulsa
Tori Stafford hit .412 (7-for-17) with two doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 RBI to lead Tulsa in six games last week. The junior also scored four runs and recorded a .476 on-base percentage and a .824 slugging percentage. Stafford had three multi-hit games, including a 2-for-4 outing against Iowa State where she hit a three-run homer and drove in a career-high-tying four runs. She also had a pair of hits in wins over Omaha and Illinois State.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Watson · Sr. · RHP · Tulsa
Emily Watson went 3-0 with a 0.67 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 21.0 innings last week. The senior started the week with a dozen strikeouts in a win over Illinois State before eight more strikeouts and just one run allowed to help Tulsa defeat Iowa State. Watson saved her best outing for last, going off for a season-high 15 strikeouts and allowing just one hit in a shutout of Saint Francis (Pa.). The shutout was the 26th of her career and third of the season.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Jill Stockley· Jr. · RHP · UConn
Stockley made three starts last week, going 3-0, with one relief appearance, pitching a total of 21.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs (three total) while scattering 17 hits. She earned a complete-game win over No. 7/9 Texas A&M on Thursday, allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out four and also added complete-game victories also against North Texas and Marist.
Georgina Corrick · Fr. · RHP · USF
Corrick pitched USF's first no-hitter since 2015 in an 8-0 victory over North Florida on Sunday, becoming the first USF freshman to accomplish the feat since 1996 by striking out five batters in five innings. The British National Team pitcher threw 55 strikes in 88 pitches and finished her fourth complete game. During the weekend, she pitched 11.1 innings in three appearances and allowed just two hits. Corrick also tossed ten batters in the Bull’s 8-0 shutout over Elon and kept the Pheonix at zeroes through 5.2 innings (of six).
Astin Donovan · Sr. · OF · USF
Donovan is just five hits away from a career 200 after eight this weekend. She hit her first home run of the season in batted in eight runs during six starts in six games last week. She batted .471 last week in a team-leading 17 at-bats with a .647 slugging percentage.
Tate McClellan· R-S0. · INF · ECU
McClellan hit .455 (5-for-11) with six runs scored, five RBI, a double and three home runs in leading ECU to a 4-0 week. She scored at least one run in all four games, turning in a monster effort at the plate in the Pirates' 16-3 win over Stony Brook, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI while hitting a pair of home runs. McClellan added a home run in ECU's 6-4 win over in-state opponent UNCW Tuesday.
Laurie Derrico · Jr. · INF · Wichita State
Derrico hit .500 (7-for-14) with six RBI, a triple and a home run last week, helping Wichita State to victories over Iowa and Creighton. She collected three multi-hit games, adding four walks and five runs scored to her week’s stat line.
