Highlights

Memphis 0, Ole Miss 3
For the first time at the Tigers Softball Complex, Memphis defeated the Ole Miss Rebels by a score of 9-3 Tuesday evening. The only other win against Ole Miss in program history was the first meeting at a neutral site on Feb. 12, 2006. The Tigers improve to 20-7 on the year with another single-game midweek coming up on Wednesday evening. Ole Miss used three hits in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. Memphis proceeded to score one run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead in half before the Tigers erupted for a six-run third inning to take the final lead of the ball game.

Having already taken the lead with two runs scored in the bottom of the third, freshman Kendall Lee ripped a grand slam to put Memphis up, 7-3. The Rebels answered with one in the fourth, but a strong pitching effort by senior Molly Smith combined with solid defense kept Ole Miss from crossing home plate again. The Tigers then tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith won her 12th game of the season and finished with 11 strikeouts. Regan Hadley finished with a team-leading two hits for the Tigers and in all, Memphis registered seven hits on the evening.

Houston 6, Sam Houston 0; Houston 13, Sam Houston 11 (10 innings)
Houston swept a doubleheader at Sam Houston State, winning 6-0 and 13-11 in 10 innings on Tuesday at Bearkat Softball Complex. In the circle, junior Savannah Heebner picked up a pair of wins to improve to 12-2, tossing a one-hitter in the first game, retiring the final 19 batters she faced, before tossing three innings of relief in the nightcap.

Against the Bearkats, sophomore second baseman Arielle James led the offense, going 4-for-7 between the two games. In the first game, James was one of six Cougars to record a base hit. She followed with a 3-for-4 effort with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the second game. Senior left fielder Kaylin Crumpton also collected three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with a double, career-high four RBI and one run scored.
