PROVIDENCE, R.I. – USF senior Jimmy Jones (Tampa, Fla.) was named the American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after pacing the Bulls at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational.
Jones is the third USF men’s player to collect accolades in the spring season, joining Carlos Correa and Priyanshu Singh.
In a field that included 32 Golfstat top 100 players and 13 ranked teams, Jones finished in a tie for seventh after posting a total score of 3-under par (74-67-69 – 210) across the three-day event. Jones’ second-round 67 matched the third-best of the day, while his closing 69 was the fourth-best on Tuesday. Over his final 45 holes, Jones was 8-under par.
For the tournament, Jones finished ahead of 25 Golfstat top 100 players. As a team, No. 19 USF took eighth (289-280-292 – 861), placing ahead of five other Golfstat top 50 programs, including No. 14 Texas and No. 16 Arkansas.
After almost a month off from competition, USF will be back in action April 16-17 at the Old Waverly Collegiate in West Point, Mississippi.
