PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of March 19-25.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kendall Lee · Fr. · UTL · Memphis
Lee started off her week in strong fashion with back-to-back pinch-hit home runs against Ole Miss and UT Martin. Against the Rebels, Lee game into the game with the bases loaded and launched her first career home run to put Memphis up for good. She then backed that up with a three-run shot one day later and earned herself a spot in the starting line-up against Wichita State. On Sunday against the Shockers, Lee hit the game-winning single which scored two, lifting Memphis to the extra inning victory. She finished the week hitting .400 and led Memphis with eight RBI and two home runs. Lee also recorded a career-high three runs scored in the win over Wichita State on Sunday.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Alea White · So. · RHP · UCF
White was unstoppable this week for the Knights throwing 28 total innings and allowing just three earned runs for a 0.75 earned run average. In her game against Princeton, White picked up her 13th win tossing five innings in the start giving up one run in the 6-1 win. White proved to be a stalwart in the circle in the conference opener with Tulsa throwing all 21 innings with the Golden Hurricane tallying three complete games for a total of 16 on the season. Her three-straight starts in the series marks the first time in UCF softball program history that a pitcher has started every game in a three-game series.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Savannah Heebner · Jr. · RHP · Houston
Heebner went 3-1 with a 0.88 ERA and 11 strikeouts across five appearances with three starts last week, tossing a total of 24.0 innings. She tossed three complete games, including a pair of shutouts, and recorded a one-hitter at Sam Houston State and two-hitter in the series finale against ECU.
Georgina Corrick · Fr. · RHP · USF
Corrick continues to impress in the circle. She threw a one-hit shutout in her American Athletic Conference debut and held the Huskies to zero runs through two games in the series. Corrick walked just one batter in 10 innings and fanned seven.
Sarah Queen · So. ·INF · Houston
Queen hit .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, one home run, six walks, six RBI and five runs scored last week. At ECU over the weekend, she recorded a double, home run, five walks, six RBI while going 3-for-3 in game two of the series and 2-for-2 in game three against the Pirates to help the Cougars take the series.
Morgan Neal· Jr. · INF · Tulsa
Morgan Neal hit .462 (6-for-13) with a pair of triples and an RBI during four games last week for Tulsa. The junior had a hit in every game, starting with a 3-for-3 outing that included a program-record-tying two triples against No. 23/24 Oklahoma State. Neal singled in all three matchups against UCF over the weekend.
Laurie Derrico · Jr. · INF · Wichita State
Derrico hit .500 (5-for-10) with six RBI, and two home runs last week in Wichita State’s first American Conference weekend series. She finished with a pair of two-hit games, and drove in four runs against Memphis on Saturday’s win.
