Memphis 6, Alcorn State 0; Memphis 10, Alcorn State 2
Memphis improved to 25-8 on the year after taking two games Tuesday against Alcorn State. Game one remained scoreless through three innings before the Tigers capitalized in the bottom of the fourth. Four runs in the fourth combined with one more in the fifth and sixth innings lifted the Tigers to a game one victory. In windy conditions, Memphis rattled off a pair of doubles by Ashley Threatt and Rebeca Melton in game one. Molly Smith pitched a complete game shutout in game one with eight strikeouts to improve to 14-3 on the year.
After two scoreless innings of ball in game two, the Tiger bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning. Five runs on six hits led to a momentum swing against the Lady Braves. Alcorn State had an answer with two in the top half of the fourth, but two more in the fourth combined with three in the fifth lifted Memphis to the eight-run run-rule victory. The Tiger offense ultimately recorded 12 hits in the second game, including three for extra bases. Memphis also registered a season-high seven stolen bases in the win. Mariah Nichols also joined the double-digit win club as she improved to 10-4 on the year.
UCF 8, Bethune-Cookman 0
The Knights racked up 10 hits in just four innings as they run-ruled Bethune-Cookman Tuesday night with an 8-0 victory at the UCF Softball Complex. Kamryn Toney received the start in the circle giving up just one hit in three innings. Four Knights recorded at least two hits with Denali Schappacher, Aubrey Johnson, Courtney Rotton, and Megan Greenwell each adding to the collection.
The Knights wasted no time attacking first as they put up three runs in their first at-bat, highlighted by RBI singles by Cassady Brewer and Brooke Barlow. Johnson singled through the left side to push Greenwell across and extended their lead to 4-0 in the second inning before the rest of the Knights' runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Schappacher drove in Greenwell on a double down the left field line to start the offense off. Two more Knights crossed the plate off a pair of bases loaded walks. Barlow sealed the deal with a hard-hit ball to the infield to plate Rotton to run-rule the Wildcats, 8-0.
Wichita State 5, #23 Oklahoma State 3
Wichita State took down #23 Oklahoma State, 5-3, for the first win over a ranked opponent since 2016 and the first in Stillwater since 2015. Madison Perrigan had two RBI with Paige Luellen and Asea Webber hitting solo home runs; Bailey Klitzke earned the win in the circle to move to 6-1 on the year. Down a run after the first inning, the Shockers tied it up instantly with Paige Luellen leading off the second by crushing a solo home run down the left field line. Oklahoma State responded with two runs in the bottom of the second before Wichita State scored the game's final three runs for the win. Asea Webber tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth with a solo home run. In the sixth with the bases loaded, Klitzke earned her first career RBI with a groundout to the shortstop to give the Shockers the lead before Perrigan extended the lead to two with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Hofstra 5, UConn 2
Kiwi McDaniel recorded her fourth multi-hit performance of the season on Tuesday, as UConn came up short in a 5-2 decision to Hofstra at Bill Edwards Stadium in midweek action. The Huskies' offense attacked early and often against Hofstra's (18-7) starting pitcher Sarah Cornell, getting nine runners on base in the first three innings - but managed just a pair of runs on an RBI double by sophomore Carli Cutler. Jill Stockley pitched a complete game for UConn, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts against the Pride. She stranded six runners on base for Hofstra in the loss. Devon Casazza and redshirt freshman Olivia Sappington added singles for the Huskies, while Briana Marcelino recorded her first-career double in the first inning off of Cornell. Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, UConn had a two-out rally against reliever Sophie Dandola after hits from Sappington and McDaniel. With the tying run at the plate, Casazza struck-out to end the game - leaving runners on first and second.
