Houston's Gray, USF's Collins Collect Final Men's Basketball Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Feb. 26-March 4.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rob Gray · Sr. · G · Houston · Forest City, N.C.
Gray led No. 25 Houston to two wins on the week, pushing the Cougars into a tie for second place in The American. At SMU, Gray nearly posted his second straight double-double, leading all players with 19 points and nine assists. On senior day, Gray notched his fourth game this year with at least 30 points, notching 30 in a victory over UConn.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
David Collins · Fr. · G · USF · Youngstown, Ohio
For the first time this season, Collins earns rookie of the week recognition after averaging 12.5 points per game in two USF wins. The freshman matched his career high with 21 points, 18 in the second half, in USF’s victory over SMU in the Bulls’ regular-season finale. Over his last nine games, Collins has scored in double figures eight times.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Jalen Adams · Jr. · G · UConn · Roxbury, Mass.
In a 1-1 week for UConn, Adams eclipsed 20 points twice, averaging 23.5 points and 7.0 assists per game. In the Huskies’ home finale against Temple, Adams posted a game-high 25 points and handed out eight assists. The junior nearly led UConn to a road win at No. 25 Houston, finishing with 22 points and six assists.
 
A.J. Davis · R-Sr. · G/F · UCF · Atlanta, Ga.
Davis put forth one of the top performances in The American this season, posting a career-high 31 points and 14 rebounds as UCF pushed No. 11 Wichita State to overtime on Thursday. Davis helped UCF to a victory over Tulane on Senior Day, finishing the week averaging 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Jacob Evans III · Jr. · G/F · Cincinnati · Baton Rouge, La.
In limited minutes, Evans averaged a team-best 15.0 ppg as No. 10 Cincinnati clinched the outright American Athletic Conference regular-season title. In the clincher at No. 11 Wichita State, Evans led all scorers with 19 points while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. Earlier in the week, Evans notched 11 points in just 11 minutes of play in a win at Tulane.
 
Malik Martin · R-Jr. · F · USF · Miami, Fla.
Helping USF to a 2-0 week, Martin averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In the Bulls’ win at Memphis, Martin notched 19 points, finishing a rebound shy of a double-double. On Sunday, Martin posted 15 points and six boards. On the week, Martin was 15 for 19 from the field.
 
Shaquille Morris · R-Sr. · F · Wichita State · Edmond, Okla.
Morris was No. 11 Wichita State’s leading scorer in a 1-1 week for the Shockers, averaging 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Playing a career-high 38 minutes at UCF, Morris finished with 19 points and nine boards. The senior tallied 16 points and eight rebounds in Wichita State’s setback against No. 10 Cincinnati.
