Highlights
The American’s baseball teams went 4-2 and enjoyed a powerful start to the week, as No. 22 UCF took down No. 1 Florida and Cincinnati knocked off No. 12 Indiana.
- For the first time in program history, the UCF baseball team has knocked off the No. 1 ranked team in the country. On Tuesday night, the No. 23 Knights defeated No. 1 Florida 9-6 in front of the second largest crowd at John Euliano Park. The Knights drove in all nine runs with two outs. Outfielder Tyler Osik went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead the Knights.
- Each starter contributed with a hit, as Cincinnati took down No. 12 Indiana, 8-3 on the road. The Bearcats led 15-5 in hits Treg Haberkorn had three hits on the day with a double and two RBIs. A.J. Kullman had an excellent start on the mound against a tough offense. He went 5.0 innings with just two hits, no earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
- The Tigers scored the winning run in the top of the ninth and held on for the win, defeating Middle Tennessee 6-5 on the road. Left-hander Danny Denz put together a great start, pitching six innings for the second-straight week with a career-high nine strikeouts. First baseman Kyle Ouellette was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored on a wild pitch.
- No. 22 Wichita State scored four runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 6-1 win over SIU Edwardsville. Four different Shockers had a multi-hit game. Noah Croft went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a triple and a home run, while Mason O'Brien went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Starter Preston Snavely went five innings and gave up one run on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
- Reliever Joey Pulido entered in the third inning and threw 6.2 shutout innings, but Houston’s offense struggled at the plate and took a 3-1 loss to Houston Baptist.
- Tulane Outfielder Grant Witherspoon smashed a grand slam in the eighth inning to put his side on top, but the Green Wave gave up three more runs to take a 9-8 loss to New Orleans.
