Highlights
The American went 5-0 against nonconference foes on Tuesday for a strong start to its midweek slate. Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Tulane and No. 20 Wichita State each earned wins. The conference improves to 131-79 against other nonconference opponents this year.
- Cincinnati took advantage of 18 free bases in the game via fourteen walks and four hit batters on the way to an 11-1 vengeance victory over Wright State to start the 10th annual Joe Nuxhall Classic with a win. For the third time this season, shortstop Manny Rodriguez had two doubles. His reach base safely streak now sits at 32 games. The Bearcats will face x at x p.m. tomorrow in the championship game.
- The seventh inning was the difference, as outfielder Grayson Padgett crossed home plate for the Cougars on the way to a 1-0 win over Rice. Second baseman Connor Hollis brought him home with the only RBI of the game on a single up the middle. Three arms from the pitching staff were used to shutout the Owls and hold them to only two hits. With the victory, the Cougars even the home-and-home series with Rice and capture their third straight win. The Cougars will play the Owls one more time on May 15.
- Second baseman Jonathon Artigues hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth to give Tulane a 4-3 win over New Orleans in the finale of the Pelican Cup. Artigues finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
- Starter Danny Denz fanned nine batters through 5.0 innings of work, scattering an earned run and two hits, as Memphis defeated Arkansas State 4-1 in Game 1 of the two-game series. The Tigers snapped a five-game setback with the win. The teams will resume the series tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET.
- Wichita State rallied from a five-run deficit, scoring eight runs in the final two innings to defeat Oklahoma State 10-7 in Game 2 of the home-and-home series. The Shockers recorded half their hits during their late rally, keeping Oklahoma State scoreless and hitless during that span and scored eight runs on five hits and an error. Catcher Gunnar Troutwin hit the game winning three-run home run in the ninth. Five Shockers enjoyed a multi-hit game, as Troutwine, third baseman Alec Bohm and outfielder Greyson Jenista combined for five hits and seven RBIs.
