PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors for the week ending April 8.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Raymond Kibet * So. * Tulane * Eldoret, Republic of Kenya
Kibet ran the fastest 400-meter dash in The American this season on Saturday against a tough field including competitors from No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 3 Houston at the Houston Alumni Invitational. His time of 46.59 ranks No. 23 in the nation this year.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brianne Bethel * So. * Houston * Freeport, Bahamas
Bethel sprinted to two top-30 NCAA performances in both the 100-meter (24th) and 200-meter (28th) dashes this weekend at the Houston Alumni Invitational. She won the 100-meter with her time of 11.42 and placed second in the 200-meter with her time of 23.10. She also ran as part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second after clocking 45.50.

Vaughn broke a 15-year-old school record in the discus throw with a toss that traveled 61.01 meters (200-2) to capture first place at the Crimson Tide Invitational. He became the first thrower in men’s discus history to reach 200 feet. His mark is No. 1 in The American and No. 4 in the nation this year. He also placed third in the shot put with a toss of 18.18 meters (59-8.25), marking the eighth time in his career he posted top-three finishes in both the discus and shot put at the same meet.

Taylor Scaife * So. * Houston * Moss Point, Miss.
Scaife broke her own school record in the hammer throw and became the first Cougar woman to throw over 200 feet at the Houston Alumni Invitational. She moved up to No. 16 in the nation and ranks No. 1 in the conference after placing first in the meet with her distance of 62.10 meters (203-9).
