Houston's Thothong Collects Women's Golf Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Houston senior Megan Thothong was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after finishing third at the Bruzzy Challenge on April 2-3.
 
Competing at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, Thothong opened the tournament with an even-par round of 72 before consecutive 75’s put her in the clubhouse at 6-over par (72-75-75 – 222) and a third-place finish. The result was Thothong’s third consecutive top 10 finish and fourth of the season.
 
Thothong, the No. 63 player in the Golfstat top 100, finished ahead of four Golfstat top 100 players. The finish helped Thothong improve eight spots in the latest top 100 rankings, where she sits at No. 55.
 
As a team, Houston finished in a tie for second with No. 34 Iowa State, two shots behind No. 38 Texas A&M. Entering the American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship, the Cougars are ranked No. 23 in the Golfstat top 25.
 
Its regular season concluded, Houston will next compete at the American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship on April 15-17. The championship will be contested at the Conservatory Course at the Hammock Beach Resort. The American Digital Network will have live coverage of the final round of the championship, beginning at approximately 12 p.m. ET.
