PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF’s women’s team and Memphis’ men’s team have earned the top seeds at the American Athletic Conference Tennis Championships, which begin this week on the campus of SMU in Dallas.
The women’s championship begins Wednesday, April 18, and continues through the April 21 final. The men’s championship runs from Thursday, April 19, through Sunday, April 22. The winners of the women’s and men’s championships will earn The American’s automatic bids to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
Seeds for the championships are determined by the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
UCF earned the No. 1 seed on the women’s side after the Knights went 18-3 in the regular season. The Knights won 12 of their last 13 matches and have six wins against nationally ranked opponents.
Memphis, the No. 1 seed in the men’s championship, brings a 17-4 dual match record into the postseason. The Tigers have won their last 12 matches, including their last six contests against nationally ranked opponents.
Competition in the American Athletic Conference Tennis Championships will take place at Turpin Stadium and the Crum Tennis Courts, both on the SMU campus. Each match in the championship will consist of three doubles matches, each consisting of one set to 6, followed by six singles matches, which will be played in a best-of-three-sets format.
