PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of April 9-15.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Macy Cook · Jr. · C · USF
Cook was the Bulls’ top performer at the plate last week, going 6-for-11 (.545) with three multi-hit games and collecting a pair of doubles, scoring two runs and driving in one RBI. In the Bulls’ opener at Tulsa, Cook’s double was key in setting up for a two-run home run that would help the Bulls stay ahead and never trail in the win. In the Bulls’ second game of the series, the Golden Hurricane took an early lead but Cook singled and was batted in to put USF on the board and tie the game. She hit her second double of the weekend and was USF’s only run in the 3-1 loss in the series finale.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Savannah Heebner · Jr. · RHP · Houston
Heebner made four appearances last week, posting a 2-2 record and 1.46 ERA with a three complete games, including a shutout win. She struck out 10 batters and didn’t allow a walk in 24.0 innings of work, helping Houston to a pair of wins against Wichita State over the weekend. Heebner also helped herself at the plate, going 6-for-18 across five games with a .611 slugging percentage, one double, two triples, two RBI and four runs scored.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Addison Maxwell · Sr. · OF · Memphis
Maxwell led the Tigers offensively this week with a .500 batting average (6-for-12) including three multi-hit games in a row against UCF. She reached base successfully in all four games after drawing a walk against No. 10 Tennessee. On Sunday against UCF, Maxwell recorded her second triple of the season.
Erin Poepping · Fr. · RHP · ECU
Poepping tallied a 1-0 record with a complete game, a save and an 0.69 ERA in 7.1 innings of work last week, helping lead ECU to an American Athletic Conference series sweep on the road at UConn. She allowed just one earned run the entire weekend and scattered six hits and surrendered just one earned run with five strikeouts in a complete-game effort as the Pirates defeated the Huskies 5-1 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Poepping returned later in the day to pick up her first collegiate save in the series sweep-clinching 7-5 victory.
Meredith Burroughs · Sr. ·INF · ECU
Burroughs hit .500 (5-for-10) with four runs scored, five RBI and two home runs in leading ECU on the road at UConn. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBI and a three-run home run in the finale that clinched the Pirates' second-ever AAC series sweep, while she had a hit and scored a run in all three games. Burroughs moved into fourth place on the ECU career chart, hitting her 28th home run in less than two seasons in a Pirate uniform, and currently leads the conference this season with 12 home runs.
Denali Schappacher · Fr. · OF · UCF
Schappacher hit .583 in four games for the Knights last week, collecting seven hits and scoring seven run. The lefty recorded a double and a triple on the week and one RBI, and was perfect on the base paths, going 4-for-4 in stolen bases. In the series with Memphis, Schappacher went 4-for-8 with five runs scored to help the Knights take the series.
Alea White · So. · RHP · UCF
White went 2-1 last week and recorded a save in four appearances for the Knights. She threw 23 total innings, giving up nine earned runs on 28 hits for a 2.74 ERA. She picked up a win and a save in the series with Memphis to help move the Knights into second place in the standings. With the wins this week, she has now collected 40 career wins and moves into the top 10 all-time in UCF program history.
