PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of March 26-31.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mackenzie Wright · Sr. · UTL · Wichita State
Wright led Wichita State offensively, hitting .700 (7-for-10) with a double, a home run, six RBI and five runs scored as the Shockers notched four wins on the week, beating No. 23 Oklahoma State in midweek action and sweeping UConn. Wright collected four RBI against the Huskies in the series opener, and recorded three multi-hit games over the week’s play.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Watson · Sr. · RHP · Tulsa
Watson helped Tulsa to a sweep of ECU last weekend by going 2-0 with a save and recording 23 strikeouts in 15.0 scoreless innings as Pirate batters hit just .157 off her during the series. Watson started the weekend with her fifth shutout of the season, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out 11. In the second game, she came on in relief and pitched the final three innings for her first save of the season, then closed the weekend with her fourth one-hitter of the campaign with eight strikeouts.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Savannah Heebner · Jr. · RHP · Houston
Heebner went 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA with nine strikeouts and zero walks across two complete games, not allowing an earned run across 14.0 innings pitched. She took the hard-luck loss in the series opener with UCF, surrendering three unearned runs on a pair of errors in the seventh inning. In the series finale, Hebbner tossed her seventh shutout of the season and, hitting for herself, went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Astin Donovan · Sr. · OF · USF
Donovan extended her reached-base streak to six games this weekend and collected her third home run of the season. She finished the week with a home run and three RBI while walking twice and scoring on three occasions. She ranks second on the team in average and has started every game for the Bulls this season.
Arielle James · So. ·INF · Houston
James hit .500 with a pair of multi-hit games for Houston, notching a home run and three runs scored. She turned in two multi-hit games in the final two contests against UCF and was a part of program single-game-record-tying three double plays in series finale against UCF.
Megan Greenwell· Sr. · OF · UCF
Greenwell exploded offensively this week for UCF hitting .625 in four games with three runs scored. On the base paths, Greenwell was 3-for-3 on stolen bases becoming the sixth on the list in UCF softball history for most stolen bases in a career. Greenwell was an integral part in the pair of wins over Houston to take the series.
Kiwi McDaniel · So. · INF · UConn
McDaniel hit .429 in three games this week, accounting for a run scored, home run and three RBI. She recorded a multi-hit game against Hofstra on Tuesday before delivering a pinch-hit three-run homer in the sixth inning against Wichita State starter Bailey Lange on Saturday - her second home run of the season.
