LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Tulsa’s Emily Watson has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Watson, who was tabbed the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, earned the second Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honor of her career after also taking home the award once last season (March 20, 2017).
The senior helped TU to a sweep of ECU last weekend by going 2-0 in the circle with a save and she recorded 23 strikeouts in 15 scoreless innings. Pirates batters hit just .157 off her during the three-game set, totaling just eight hits.
Watson started the weekend with her fifth shutout of the season as she allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out 11. In the second game, she came on in relief and pitched the final three innings for her first save of the campaign. Watson then closed the weekend with her fourth one-hitter of the season and produced another eight strikeouts.
Watson and the Golden Hurricane (22-14) will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 when the squad travels to Stillwater for a matchup with Oklahoma State (25-10).
