PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced its weekly tennis honors for the week-ending April 2.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Constantin Schmitz • Sr. • Tulane • Remagen, Germany
Schmitz led Tulane to a pair of wins last week as the Green Wave scored 4-0 victories against SMU and No. 15 Texas. He scored a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Texas’ top player, who was ranked No. 60 nationally, and paired with Ewan Moore to take a 7-6 (5) win at No. 1 doubles against the nation’s fourth-ranked tandem. He also earned a 6-4 doubles win against SMU to clinch the team point. Schmitz, who has defeated 10 nationally ranked opponents in singles play, extended his unbeaten streak in singles to seven straight matches, while he has won his last six doubles contests.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Rebeka Stolmar • Fr. • UCF • Budapest, Hungary
Stolmar won a pair of straight-set decisions at No. 3 singles and won her only doubles match that was played to completion as UCF scored a 7-0 win against Brown and a 4-1 victory against No. 31 Florida International last week, extending the Knights’ winning streak to nine matches. Stolmar dropped only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win against Brown and was a 6-4, 6-2 winner against Florida International, improving to 15-1 in singles play this season.

Memphis' men's team is ranked No. 17 in the April 3 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings. Tulane is ranked No. 26 and UCF is No. 38.
The American has three women’s teams in the April 3 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings as UCF is No. 22, Tulsa is No. 29 and Wichita State is No. 36.
Tulane’s Constantin Schmitz is ranked No. 11 in the April 3 Oracle/ITA Rankings. Memphis’ Ryan Peniston is No. 47, USF’s Alberto Barroso-Campos is No. 77, Tulane’s Ewan Moore is No. 87, Tulsa’s Joshua Goodger is No. 95, Memphis’ Andrew Watson is No. 110, and Tulsa’s Majed Kilani is No. 114. UCF’s doubles tandem of Korey Lovett/Eero Vasa is ranked No. 10, Tulsa’s Joshua Goodger/Jarod Hing is No. 53, Constantin Schmitz/Ewan Moore of Tulane rank No. 54.
Fatima Bizhukova of Wichita State is No. 55 in the April 3 ITA singles rankings. ECU’s Celia Ruiz was ranked No. 69, Ksenia Laskutova of Tulsa is No. 73, Martina Okalova of Tulsa is No. 101 and Tsveta Dimitrova of Houston is No. 103. In doubles, Wichita State’s tandem of Fatima Bizhukova/Marta Bellucco is No. 61, UCF’s duo of Ksenia Kuznetsova/Maria Martinez is No. 72, Houston’s Tsveta Dimitrova/Sveva Mazzari is No. 81 and Tulsa’s Ksenia Laskutova/Martha Matoula is No. 86.
The American Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will be held in April at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas. The women’s championship takes place April 18-21, while the men’s championship will be played April 19-22.
MEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (9-7), which is No. 38 in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings, saw a five-match winning streak end with a 4-0 setback to No. 18 Oklahoma State in its only match from last week. UCF faces a pair of American Athletic Conference opponents this week with road trips to Tulsa (Friday) and No. 17 Memphis (Sunday).
UConn (4-11) fell 4-1 to Temple in its only match last week. The Huskies have a busy week ahead with a Friday match at Bryant, a Saturday visit to Marist (in a rescheduled contest from two weeks ago) and a Sunday home date with Boston University.
ECU (18-4) nearly extended its winning streak to 11 matches, but saw its streak end at 10 after a 4-3 setback to William & Mary. The doubles point proved to be the difference as the teams split the six singles matches. The Pirates will host Charleston Sunday in their only match of the week.
Memphis (14-4) enters this week ranked No. 17 in the Oracle/ITA list. The Tigers scored a 7-0 win against Jackson State in their only match from last week. Memphis will host the American Athletic Conference’s two Florida-based schools this week as USF visits Friday and No. 38 UCF comes to town Sunday.
USF (7-13) had a busy week as the Bulls sandwiched setbacks to South Alabama (6-1) and Florida Atlantic (4-0) around a 5-2 victory against SMU. The Bulls face a pair of nationally ranked opponents from The American on the road this week with a Friday visit to No. 17 Memphis and a Sunday match at No. 26 Tulane.
SMU (7-14) looks to snap a six-match slide after the Mustangs fell 4-0 to No. 22 Tulane and 5-2 to USF last week. SMU continues its stretch of opponents from the American Athletic Conference with a Friday match against Wichita State in Dallas.
Temple (10-7) split a pair of matches last week as the Owls fell 6-1 to Drexel, but bounced back to take a 4-1 victory against UConn. Temple has two matches on this week’s docket as the Owls host La Salle Friday and visit St. John’s Saturday.
Tulane (13-6), which is ranked No. 26 in this week’s national rankings, began a productive week with a 4-0 win against SMU before the Green Wave scored a 4-0 win against No. 15 Texas for its seventh win in eight matches. The win against the Longhorns was a rematch of last year’s second-round match NCAA tournament, when Texas eliminated the Green Wave. Constantin Schmitz and Ewan Moore scored singles wins at the top of the ladder and paired for a 7-6 (5) doubles victory against Texas’ top tandem, which was ranked No. 4 nationally. Tulane closes its regular season this weekend with home matches against Rice and USF.
Tulsa (10-14) was idle last week. The Golden Hurricane hosts No. 38 UCF Friday in its only match of the week.
Wichita State (13-8) has won its last six matches after the Shockers took a 4-3 win at Denver in their only action from last week. Murkel Dellien, at No. 3, and Andrea Trapani, at No. 6, battled to three-set wins in singles to help the Shockers rally from a 3-2 deficit to get the win. Wichita State heads to Dallas Friday to face SMU.
WOMEN’S TENNIS UPDATE
UCF (15-2) has won its last nine matches after the Knights took a 7-0 win against Brown and a 4-1 victory against Florida International last week. The Knights are No. 22 in the April 3 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings and are the highest-ranked of the three ranked team from The American. UCF visits USF Wednesday in the annual War On I-4 matchup and hosts Rice Friday.
Cincinnati (9-8) scored a 4-3 win against Xavier last week – the Bearcats’ seventh match this season that was decided by one team point. After dropping the doubles point, Cincinnati rallied to take four of the six singles matches, capped by Anna Philip’s three-set win at No. 6. Cincinnati hosts Northern Kentucky Wednesday.
UConn (9-7) was idle last week. UConn is back in action this week with a Friday match against Memphis and a Saturday match against Boston University in Storrs.
ECU (12-8) dropped a pair of matches against American Athletic Conference opponents as the Pirates fell 4-2 to Houston and 5-0 to SMU last week. Celia Ruiz, who is No. 69 in the Oracle/ITA rankings improved to 12-3 record at No. 1 singles with her win against Houston. ECU hosts Elon Thursday and has Saturday matches against VCU and North Carolina A&T.
Houston (17-2) has won nine of its last 10 matches after the Cougars scored a 4-2 win against ECU in their only match from last week. Sveva Mazzari remains unbeaten in the spring as her match against ECU went unfinished. Mezzari takes a 16-0 dual match record into Saturday’s contest at SMU before the Cougars host Prairie View A&M Sunday.
Memphis (12-7) extended its winning streak to four matches after the Tigers rolled to a 4-0 win against NorthTexas. The Tigers head to New England this week for a Friday match against UConn and a Sunday battle against Boston University on the UConn campus.
USF (11-7) was idle last week. The Bulls resume play Wednesday against No. 22 UCF in Tampa as part of the War onI-4 series.
SMU (8-8) has won four of its last five matches after the Mustangs scored a 5-0 victory against ECU in their only action from last week. SMU looks to continue its hot streak with a pair of matches this week. The Mustangs visit UT Arlington Wednesday before returning to Dallas to host Houston Saturday.
Temple (6-7) dropped a 5-2 decision to Drexel in the Owls’ only match from last week. Temple has two matches on the docket for this week as the Owls host La Salle Friday and make the short road trip to Villanova for a Sunday matchup.
Tulane (11-10) went 3-0 last week as the Green Wave opened with a 4-0 win against Louisiana-Monroe and won Saturday matches against Southern Miss (4-1) and Southern (4-0). Tulane, which is idle this week, plays its final regular-season match April 13 against Louisiana.
Tulsa (16-4). which is ranked No. 29 in this week's Oracle/ITA rankings, dropped a 4-1 setback to then-No. 17 Texas Tech in the Golden Hurricane’s only match from last week, snapping a four-match winning streak. Tulsa visits No. 10 Oklahoma State Friday in its only match of the week.
Wichita State (15-6) split a pair of matches against nationally ranked opponents last week as the Shockers fell 4-0 to No. 13 Oklahoma State, but bounced back for a 5-2 victory against No. 44 Oklahoma. Wichita State, which is ranked No. 36 in this week’s Oracle/ITA list, is idle this week as the Shockers resume play April 13 against Kansas State.
