Cincinnati and No. 11 ECU each posted 7-2 wins to clinch their series on Saturday. Houston and No. 22 Wichita State both bounced back to take Game 2 of their respective series to force a rubber game for Sunday. No. 22 UCF and UConn will play a doubleheader tomorrow after a long series opener.
- The Bearcats' starter Nathan Kroger retired the first 10 batters he faced and struck out a career-high seven to lead the way in a 7-2 win over Memphis tp clinch the weekend series. Cincinnati improves to 5-3 in The American’s standings, good for fourth place. The Bearcats tacked on six runs in the fourth inning, as catcher Joey Thomas and outfielder AJ Bumpass each finished the game with two hits. Game 3 will take place tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
- Designated hitter Bryant Packard hit a pair of home runs, while starter Tyler Smith allowed one run over seven innings, lifting ECU to a 7-2 series win at Washington. Packard ended the day with four hits and four RBIs. With the win, the Pirates are now 8-0 (with four shutouts) in Game 3's, have outscored their opponents 69-13, winning their seventh series of the season.
- UCF rallied from a four-run deficit in the ninth inning to beat UConn 10-8 in 11 innings to open the weekend series. The Knights scored four runs in the ninth inning and plated a pair of runs in the 11th to win their second extra-inning game of the year. The game consisted of a combined 27 hits, as UCF led with 15. Shortstop Anthony Prato, catcher Thad Phillips and infielder Michael Woodward combined for nine of UConn’s hits. Outfielder ray Alejo went 4-for-6 for UCF. The Huskies and the Knights will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
- Wichita State tallied four runs in the third inning and refused to look back from there to win 9-3 and even its series with Tulane. The rubber game will be played tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET. All Shocker starters recorded a hit against the Green Wave, with Gunnar Troutwine going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Starter Liam Eddy went seven innings and gave up one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts, to collect his sixth win of the season.
- Aaron Fletcher struck out a career-high 11 and Nick Slaughter delivered a walkoff single in the ninth to lift the Cougars to a 1-0 shutout win over USF to even the series. The finale is set for 2 p.m. ET tomorrow, as the winner will move into the top spot of the league standings. It marked Houston’s fifth walkoff and fourth shutout of the year, as the Cougars have played 12 one-run games this season. Starter Peter Strzelecki threw the entire 8.1 innings for USF, scattering six hits and striking out seven batters, while walking two.
