PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 8.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Anthony Prato * So. * SS * UConn
Prato batted .538 through a chilly conference series win at home over No. 22 UCF. He had seven hits, two RBIs, four runs scored and two extra-base hits. The sophomore shortstop had multiple hits in all three games and went error-free with four putouts and nine assists. The Huskies swept their Sunday doubleheader, as Prato went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in the first game. He then went 2-for-3 and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth in the series finale.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Aaron Fletcher * Jr. * LHP * Houston
Fletcher threw eight shutout innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters on Saturday in a 1-0 win over USF. He scattered five hits and gave up only one walk. The junior southpaw faced six over the minimum, as the Cougars went on to capture Game 3 the following day and clinch the series to remain at the top of The American standings.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
A.J. Bumpass * Jr. * OF * Cincinnati
Bumpass batted .500 and recorded two hits in each of the three games of his team’s weekend sweep over Memphis. The Bearcats catapulted to the top of the conference standings with a 6-3 record, sweeping their first opponent in two seasons. Bumpass added three runs scored, three RBIs and two triples to the series win.
Nathan Kroger * So. * RHP * Cincinnati
Kroger threw seven innings and fanned seven batters, guiding his team to a series-clinching 7-2 win over Memphis on Saturday. He scattered six hits, an earned run and two walks, retiring the first 10 batters he faced.
Bryant Packard * So. * DH * ECU
Packard led his team to a 4-1 week, including a weekend series win at Washington—the Pirates’ first series win on the West Coast in program history. He batted .500 (10-for-20) with a team-leading two home runs, six runs scored and 17 total bases. He tallied three multi-hit games, including four hits, four RBIs and two home runs in the series finale.
Jared Triolo * So. * 3B * Houston
Triolo played a big role in Houston’s conference series win against USF. He batted .571 (8-for-14) with three runs scored and two RBIs. Triolo went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs in Game 1 and 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the rubber match on Sunday. He extended his on-base streak to 30 games and hit streak to 16. The sophomore third baseman had four putouts and six assists with 0 errors.
Alec Bohm * Jr. * 3B * Wichita State
Bohm led the Shockers to a 3-1 week including a non-conference win over Oklahoma State and a series win over Tulane. He went 7-for-17 (.412) with seven runs, one double, one home run and four RBIs. Bohm had at least one hit in four games throughout the week, recording two hits in three of them. He started off the week with a 2-for-5 performance against Oklahoma State on Wednesday and recorded two RBIs against the Green Wave in Game 1. He then went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Game 2 and 2-for-4 with three runs scored and his eighth home run of the season in Game 3.
