Highlights
Cincinnati, No. 9 ECU, No. 20 Houston and Memphis each picked up a win in The American's baseball teams final midweek games of the 2018 season on Tuesday. The teams will play their final regular season series this weekend.
OF Dwanya Williams-Sutton went 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs, a double and three runs scored, as ECU scored the final nine runs of the game on the way to a 12-7 win over Campbell in its final regular season home game of the year. DH Bryant Packard extended his hits streak to 29-straight games after recording three hits. ECU ends its midweek slate winning its final five nonconference contests. The Pirates will head to UConn for their final conference series of the year over the weekend.
The bats were alive for Memphis, as the Tigers surged for eight runs in the opening inning to take down UT Martin 10-0 in seven innings in the Babe Howard Classic at USA Stadium. Nine batters in the Tigers’ lineup recorded a hit and six registered an RBI. Carlos Williams and Tyler Webb each enjoyed multi-hit games. Freshman starter Drew Talley struck out 10 batters through 6.0 scoreless innings, scattering three hits in his first-career start. The Tigers will wrap up their season against Wichita State over the weekend.
Cincinnati took down Ohio State 14-4 on Tuesday in a seven-inning matinee. The Bearcats were firing on all cylinders as every starter had either a RBI or a hit and pitchers Garrett Schoenle and Isaac Olson performed well. Two-out hitting was key, as Kyle Mottice and Treg Haberkorn both had extra-base hits with bases loaded and two outs. Cincinnati will play its final conference series against USF on home turf over the weekend.
Houston claimed the Silver Glove series over Rice in Game 3, 7-2, at Constellation Field. The Cougars tallied three runs through the first three frames and refused to look back from there. Starter Ryan Randel earned the win after fanning seven batters through 6.2 innings. The Coogs had 11 hits, while holding Rice to three.
