PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF and USF both find themselves in position to advance to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship after the second round of competition on the Watson Course at the Reunion Resort. After two rounds of competition, the Knights sit second with a team score of 20-under par (556), while the Bulls sit at 13-under.
Individually, SMU’s Mac Meissner and Houston’s Michael Perras each find themselves tied for 19
th place at the Norman and College Station Regionals, respectively.
The top five teams from each region, along with the low individual not on the advancing teams, will move on to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship ose teams from each of the six 54-hole regional tournaments advance to the NCAA Championship rounds.
At the Kissimmee Regional, it was UCF’s Kyler Tate who moved into a tie for the individual lead, going out in 5-under par en route to recording a 7-under 65 to reach 8-under par for the championship. Tate is part of a trio atop the leaderboard, joining Florida’s Andy Zhang and North Carolina’s Austin Hitt.
UCF sits nine strokes ahead of the three teams tied for fifth place at 11-under par – No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 17 North Carolina and No. 44 Colorado State.
The Knights had three players finish with scores at par or better on the par-72 Watson Course. Manuel Elvira notched four birdies on the back nine to post a 2-under 70, while Juuso Kahlos canceled out two bogeys with two birdies on his way to a 72.
The Knights made their way up the leaderboard by dominating Reunion’s par 5’s, posting a team score of -17 across the four holes.
For No. 20 USF, Priyanshu Singh’s 5-under 67 paced the Bulls as they maintained their position on the team leaderboard after the second round.
The Bulls improved on their first-round score by a shot and is looking to book a trip to the NCAA Championship rounds for the third time in the past four seasons.
Singh boosted the Bulls on the second day of their sixth straight NCAA Regional appearance by carding a season-best 67. The stellar round that included six birdies helped the senior jump up 38 spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 18th place at 2-under.
Cristian DiMarco leads the Bulls overall at the tournament after using three birdies to card his second consecutive round of 70. The senior from Longwood, Fla., is currently tied for 12
th place at 4-under and he's four shots off the lead.
Claudio Correa followed up his first-round 69 with an even-par 72 that included four birdies. The senior from Santiago, Chile is tied for 15th place at 3-under.
Jimmy Jones stayed in the top 25 by shooting an even-par 72 a day after carding a 71. The senior from Tampa is currently tied for 23
rd place at 1-under.
After shooting a 70 in Monday's First Round on the 7,121-yard, par-72 course, Perras struggled early with back-to-back bogeys to start Tuesday's play. The Deer Park, Texas, native rallied with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14-15 and finished the final three holes with a bogey and consecutive pars.
In 19
th, Perras is tied with five other individuals as Perras is tied for 5th among players not on the top 5 teams at +1 overall.
At the Normal Regional, SMU’s Meissner waited through a long weather delay after 10 holes before a late double-bogey sent him to a round of 74 and into a tie for 19
th. At even par over two rounds, Meissner is tied with three other individuals in fifth place among teams not in the top five.
Meissner trails the non-team qualifying individual by three shots entering Wednesday’s final round.
