PROVIDENCE, R.I. – All 12 women’s and each of the nine men’s American Athletic Conference programs will be represented at the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships preliminary competitions from May 24-26. The American’s teams combined to send 143 student-athletes to the East and West prelims. USF will host the East Prelim in Tampa, while Cal State-Sacramento will host the West Prelim.
Seventy-three men and 70 women from around the conference are set to compete against the nation’s top athletes. The men will send 38 athletes to the East Prelim and 35 to the West Prelim, while 28 women will be featured in the West Prelim and 42 are set to head to Tampa for the East Prelim. Houston swept the 2018 men’s and women’s conference championships and combined to send 26 athletes in 32 events to lead the league. Memphis is sending the second-most athletes with 24 (15 men, 8 women) making the trip. Cincinnati (7 men, 8 women) rounds off the top three with 15 heading to the East Prelim.
The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
