Highlights
The final two American Athletic Conference regular season games were each affected by inclement weather, as the UCF and Tulane series finale was cancelled and Wichita State and Memphis were delayed for over an hour.
The American’s baseball championship bracket is complete following Saturday’s regular season series finale.
Wichita State tied a season-high with 20 hits on the way to a 13-6 win over Memphis to claim the three-game series. The Shockers moved up to finishing seventh in conference standings and will play as the No. 7 seed next week at The American’s Baseball Championship presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. Travis Young went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles, while Luke Ritter and Greyson Jenista each had three hits and Gunnar Troutwine and Noah Croft each had three RBIs.
The conference championship begins Tuesday, May 22, at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida, and figures to be one of the most compelling conference tournaments in college baseball. All eight teams enter the tournament in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI, while The American ranks fourth among the nation's 31 Division I conferences in the RPI.
The 2018 tournament will be played in a double-elimination format through the semifinal round. The championship final is a winner-take-all matchup Sunday, May 27, which will determine The American’s automatic entrant to the NCAA Championship.
Live coverage of the first five days of the championship - as many as 14 games - will be provided by the American Digital Network Plus, the conference's new home for live events on the Facebook platform. The May 27 final will be televised at noon ET on ESPNews.
