Six American Golfers Named to PING All-Region Teams

STILLWATER, Okla. – Six American Athletic Conference student-athletes were honored as Division I PING All-Region honorees, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). UConn’s Jimmy Hervol and Drake Hull were joined by the USF duo of Claudio Correa and Cristian DiMarco, along with Cincinnati’s Austin Squires and Michael Perras of Houston.

Correa collected the third all-region honor of his career from the Golf Coaches Association of America after leading the Bulls to their fourth straight American Athletic Conference Championship title in wire-to-wire fashion.

Correa was named conference player of the year after capturing The American tournament's individual crown with a three-shot victory on April 24. The Santiago, Chile native led the Bulls with six top-10 finishes and 11 top-25 performances after tying for 14th place at the NCAA Kissimmee Regional. Correa's season scoring average of 71.14 ranks second in the program record books.

DiMarco earned his first all-region honor after ranking second on the team with a 71.4 season stroke average, five top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 outings. The Longwood, Fla., native won his first individual title as a Bull in the fall opener at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and tied for second at The American tournament.

Correa and DiMarco both now own a share of the new USF season record with 23 rounds of par of better apiece. The seniors also helped USF match the program season record of five tournament title victories ahead of the program's sixth straight NCAA Regional appearance.

For Hervol, the selection marked the second consecutive PING All-Northeast Region honor of his career, and the first for Hull.

Hervol, who was named to The American All-Conference Team for the second time in his career, set a UConn record with a 71.6 average for 35 rounds last season. He was UConn's low scorer in six events this past season, including the FAU Spring Championship, where he won medalist honors. The rising senior notched five top-10 and eight top-20 finishes this season and shot 19 rounds of par-or-better, including nine sub-70 rounds. He is also a two-time AAC All-Academic Team selection.

Hull averaged a score of 72.9 across 35 rounds for the Huskies, earning two top 10 and four top 20 finishes, including a season-best tie for fifth at the prestigious Clemson Invitational. He had 15 rounds of par-or-better and five sub-70 rounds.

Squires earned a place on the All-Midwest Team for the second straight year. It marks the second consecutive season Squires has claimed the recognition.

The rising senior posted seven Top 20 finishes in 2017-18, recording a school-record low 71.91 stroke average. He posted par or better scores during 17 of his 32 rounds. He claimed medalist honors at the Firestone Invitational (8-under 208) for the second consecutive year and tied for 13th at The American Championship (4-over 217).

Squires was tabbed an all-conference team selection by American Athletic Conference coaches in early May.

Similarly, Perras was selected to the All-Central Team for the second time during his career.

A four year letterman, Perras led the Cougars with a 71.03 average, 25 rounds of par or better, including nine in the 60s and six top-10 finishes. He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team for the third straight season in April and was recognized as the league’s Golfer of the Week in mid-April. Perras finished his career among the Cougars’ Top-10 career leaders in stroke average (72.13), strokes (10,675) and rounds played (148).

Perras was selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Bryan Regional earlier this month, becoming only the 17th player in program history to compete in 3-plus NCAA Regionals during his career.
