All three away teams opened their Friday series with a win in The American’s first May series. Cincinnati, No. 19 UConn and No. 12 ECU each rallied on the road to start of the final month of the regular season strong. The UCF-Houston series opener was postponed due to inclement weather, as the teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow with Game 1 streamed on the
American Digital Network.
Cincinnati starter J.T. Perez tossed six shutout innings and scattered one run through his seven-frame outing to pace the Bearcats to an 8-2 win at Wichita State. Clayton Colvin came in for the final two innings, striking out the side in the ninth. Cincinnati used a five-run surge in the fifth inning to pull ahead for good, as catcher Joey Thomas hit a two-run single during that run. Five Bearcats ended the night with a multi-hit game. Saturday’s game begins at 3 p.m. ET.
UConn used a strong start, scoring three runs through the opening three innings to take Game 1, 5-1, at Memphis. The Huskies’ southpaw starter Mason Feole tossed 7.2 innings, fanning nine batters, while scattering one earned run on five hits. UConn’s offense surged for 12 hits. Game 2 is set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Both sides tallied three runs in the fourth inning, as the game spent four innings in a tie, but ECU rallied for the final four runs of the contest in the eighth and ninth innings to pull ahead, 9-5 at Tulane. The teams will battle again on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. Four arms out of the Pirates’ bullpen kept the Green Wave scoreless, holding it to four hits, through the final five frames. Two base runners were walked with the bases loaded in the eighth to give ECU the go-ahead runs.
