PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of April 30-May 6.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tierrah Williams · Fr. · UTL · Houston
Williams finished the week with a perfect 1.000 batting average (5-for-5) with a pair of multi-hit games as she helped lead Houston to three victories last week over Memphis. She drove in eight total RBI while notching a two-run homer and three RBI on Saturday before collecting a grand slam and a career-high five RBI in Sunday’s regular season finale. The freshman also walked twice and scored two runs for the Cougars in the victories.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Watson · Sr. · RHP · Tulsa
Watson closed her career at Collins Family Softball Complex in style with two shutouts and 25 strikeouts over 14 innings to help Tulsa take the final regular season series over UConn. Watson allowed just four hits and struck out 11 in the series opener, but saved her best for Senior Day and the regular-season finale. The senior struck out 14 and allowed just a bunt base hit in the fourth to improve to 20-11 in the circle this season. Watson struck out the first eight batters she faced before a ball was put in play, facing the minimum 21 batters after the lone Huskie to reach base was thrown out trying to steal second. In all, UConn hitters batted just .109 against her during the series.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Savannah Heebner · Jr. · RHP · Houston
Heebner made two appearances in the circle last week, posting a 2-0 record with a pair of complete games and a 0.58 ERA, including tossing a one-hitter in Sunday’s finale against Memphis. She struck out 11 batters and allowed only one walk in 12.0 innings of work. Heebner also helped herself at the plate, driving in an RBI and collecting her team-leading fourth triple of the season.
Astin Donovan · Sr. · OF · USF
Donovan went 4-for-8 with one multi-hit game over the weekend. Donovan scored the go-ahead run in the Bulls final regular season game on senior day that clinched the American regular season title. The Bulls were tied, 1-1, when Donovan singled to right field and raced home on a fielders’ choice two batters later. In USF’s loss to the Shockers on Friday, Donovan went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in her 17th multi-hit game of the season. She scored three runs and one RBI during the weekend.
Georgina Corrick · Fr. ·RHP · USF
Corrick earned the win in the Bulls’ win on Sunday that clinched the regular season title. In the same game, she had her first career hit which was a double that set up the tying run in the second inning. She finished her 15th win and 10th complete game. She pitched 14.1 total innings against the Shockers and walked just one batter the entire weekend. Her ERA for the weekend was 1.47 after allowing just three runs and striking out eight.
Brooke Barlow · Jr. · INF · UCF
Barlow went 5-for-8 (.625) in the three-game sweep over ECU to close out the regular season. She scored three runs and knocked in a pair to lead the charge for the Knights. She drew two walks to help her garner a .700 on-base percentage. Her six total bases over the weekend gave her a .750 slugging percentage as she also recorded a double.
Bailey Lange · Jr. · UTL · Wichita State
Lange pitched 13.0 innings last week for the Shockers, going 1-1 and giving up three runs (two earned) with six strikeouts. Lange helped herself at the plate as well, collecting a triple and a homer while driving in two RBI.
