PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s final weekly outdoor track and field honors for the week ending May 5.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emmanuel Rotich * Jr. * Tulane * Sotik, Republic of Kenya
Rotich captured gold at the Payton Jordan Invitational in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to propel to the top of the league’s performance list. His time of 8:40.66 ranks No. 4 in the NCAA this season. Rotich will look to defend his conference title in this event at the outdoor championship this weekend.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Alexis Anton * Sr. * Cincinnati * Chargin, Ohio
Anton became one of four women to currently rank in the top eight on The American’s performance lists in both the 800 and 1,500-meter dashes after competing at the Kentucky Relays on Saturday. She won the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:33.63, securing the third-fastest time in Cincinnati history. She also ran in the 800-meter race to move into The American’s top six at 2:12.63.

Jared Kerr * Sr. * Houston * Ontario, Canada
Last year’s American Athletic Conference triple jump champion, Kerr, will look to make a splash in the long jump at this year’s meet after leaping to the top of the conference’s performance list on Friday at Houston’s Tom Tellez Invitational. His distance of 7.94 meters (26-0.75) is the 10th-furthest distance in the NCAA this year.

Kelsey Slawson * Jr. * Wichita State * Paola, Kan.
Slawson re-set her school record in the shot put with her distance of 15.56 meters (51-0.75). Her record-setting performance placed first at the Shocker Open and ranks No. 31 in the NCAA West region and propelled her to the No. 5 spot on The American’s performance list, just a week before the league’s championship meet.
