ECU and Houston Cruise to NCAA Regional Opener Wins; UConn and USF Fall in First Games

- American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Aaron Fletcher tossed his third complete game of the season, as No. 3-seeded Houston powered to a 9-1 win over No. 2-seeded Purdue in the Chapel Hill Regional to begin its road to Omaha. Eight Cougars in the lineup had at least one hit, as Joe Davis and Lael Lockhart Jr. combined for five hits, five RBIs and three runs scored. Houston will advance to the winner's bracket and take on No. 1-seeded North Carolina at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.

- Ten different Pirates had at least one hit, while nine in the lineup drove in a run, as No. 1-seeded ECU cruised past UNC Wilmington 16-7 in the opening round of the Greenville Regional in front of a sold-out crowd at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Four Pirates had a multi-hit game, as Connor Litton went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a two-run home run. ECU scored in all but one inning, tallying multiple runs through six frames. The Pirates will host No. 2-seeded South Carolina in the winner’s bracket on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.

- Chris Chatfield and David Villar recorded the only two RBIs for No. 2-seeded USF, as the Bulls took a 9-2 first-round loss to No. 3-seeded Oklahoma State in the DeLand Regional to open their action at the NCAA Championship. USF will await its opponent for Saturday’s elimination game where it will face No. 4-seeded Hartford at 1 p.m. ET.

- Isaac Feldstein drove in Anthony Prato in the first inning, but No. 2-seeded UConn gave up the final seven runs of the game and dropped a 7-1 decision to No. 3-seeded Washington in the opening round of the NCAA Championship in Conway, S.C. Prato ended the day 2-for-4, extending his on-base streak to 46-straight games. UConn starter Mason Feole struck out six through the first seven innings but took his second loss of the season. The Huskies will play LIU Brooklyn in an elimination game at Noon ET on Saturday.
