PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The American Athletic Conference has announced the 2018-19 men's basketball conference pairings.
Each team in The American will play seven of its 11 conference opponents twice, and the other four opponents once each – two at home and two away.
Entering 2018-19, 10 of the 12 teams in The American return more than 50 percent of their points and minutes from last season. UCF, Memphis and Temple all return more than 70 percent of their points from last season, while ECU, SMU and UConn join the aforementioned trio as bringing back at least 60 percent of their minutes from a year ago.
Three new head coaches – Dan Hurley at UConn, Penny Hardaway at Memphis, and Joe Dooley at ECU – join an already impressive lineup of coaches across The American.
The American earned its best seeds in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, with Cincinnati receiving a No. 2 seed, Wichita State a No. 4 and Houston a No. 6. Both Cincinnati and Houston were within seconds of Sweet Sixteen bids in the NCAA Tournament. On June 21, the conference will likely eclipse its previous high for picks in a single NBA Draft.
