PROVIDENCE, RI – Three athletic directors from American Athletic Conference institutions recently were appointed to NCAA Division I committees. Troy Dannen of Tulane University has been named to the Competition Oversight Committee; Dr. Patrick Kraft of Temple University has been selected to the Strategic Vision and Planning Committee; and Tom Bowen of the University of Memphis has been named to the Football Oversight Committee.
Dannen, who is in his third year as director of athletics at Tulane, begins his four-year term on the Competition Oversight Committee July 1, 2018. The committee will have oversight responsibility of regular season and championships administration in sports other than football and men’s and women’s basketball, including supervision of qualification and/or selection procedures for Division I and National Collegiate Championships. The committee will prioritize enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically) and, in doing so, promote student-athletes’ personal growth and leadership development.
Kraft, who has served as Temple’s athletic director since May 2015, will serve a four-year appointment on the Strategic Vision and Planning Committee through June 2022. The committee will have oversight responsibility of administrative functions related to the management of the Division I governance structure, including business and legal affairs, strategic planning and research (including recommendations regarding research topics and expenditure of funds for projects), Division I membership activities (including the reclassification process), and health and safety matters.
Bowen, who has been the athletic director at Memphis for five years, starts his four-year appointment on the Football Oversight Committee beginning July 1. The committee will ensure that appropriate oversight of football for both the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision is maintained; enhance the development of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason football. The committee will prioritize enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes’ personal growth and leadership development. It will work in conjunction with appropriate governance entities to provide solutions to issue impacting the health and safety of football student-athletes.
